Chapter Sixteen
CAPONE
F or the past week, my life had morphed into something I couldn’t even dream of. Every day, I went to work and came home to Giovanna and Gabi. They slept in the guestroom at my home the day we picked up Gabi from Crystal’s and they had been there ever since.
Sometimes, we would go to the clubhouse for breakfast and dinner and some days, we stayed at home in our own little bubble. Those two were the highlights of my day. From the moment I walked out the door, the only thing I thought about was getting back home to them.
The way Giovanna consumed my mind had my head spinning. Leaving her to go to work was harder than expected. I’d always been laid back when it came to women but with her, I was different. I was possessive and obsessed.
All I could do was count down the minutes until I could get back to her to taste and touch her again. I longed to feel her, but I wouldn’t take it there until I knew she was certain this was where she wanted to be.
The little minx had tried to get me to go all the way a few times. I had almost given in until I remembered she truly didn’t understand how serious I was about claiming her. Once I sunk my cock into her tight and wet honey pot, it would be a wrap.
She would be mine and not even she could change that.
I knew I sounded crazy, but I couldn’t change how I felt.
Derek’s parents had been radio silent since his mother promised to take Giovanna to court. I was scared that she would hop on the first plane back to Washington, but she didn’t.
When she explained why she didn’t bend to Whitney’s demands, I understood. If she folded now, Whitney would think every time Giovanna didn’t do what she wanted, she would always throw that at Giovanna to scare her.
I could tell from the moment I met that woman she was used to getting whatever she wanted. She didn’t care about what was best for Gabi, just herself.
I hadn’t said too much pertaining to Derek’s parents.
Whatever Giovanna decided to do, I wanted to feel that she made that decision solely based on her feelings.
As much as I had begun looking at Gabi as if she was mine, that part of her life I didn’t have a say-so in.
Whitney and Dennis were here long before me, and they’d never mistreated her.
They had just brought a wolf in sheep’s clothing into her life.
A knock on my office door snapped me from my thoughts.
“Come in.”
Sage came sauntering through the door with a worried expression. “Umm, there’s a woman out there. She said her name is Jamie and she isn’t leaving until she speaks with you.”
I sighed in frustration. I should have known this was coming. Jamie was a woman I was sleeping with prior to meeting Giovanna. We weren’t exclusive by any means, but I slept with Jamie more frequently than the others. She was a bartender at Sinners, the bar the club owns.
She had been calling me for weeks, but I’d been declining the calls. We never went this long without hooking up and I was sure she was wondering what had changed. I owed it to her to let her know I was with someone.
While Giovanna and I hadn’t made anything official, I had no desire to still play the field. I was hers. I just needed Giovanna to come to terms that she was mine.
“Send her in, Sage.”
“Right away, Mr. Ferrari.” I gave her a look and she giggled. “Sorry. Capone, I’ll send her in.”
“Much better.”
A few minutes later, Jamie walked through the door. She looked beautiful as she always did but I didn’t have eyes for her anymore. There wasn’t anyone walking this earth who compared to Giovanna.
Jamie had a seductive smile on her face as she walked over to me.
Her blond hair was curled, and she wore a white spaghetti crop top with jeans that molded her like a second skin.
There was a little more switch in her hips than normal.
I knew right then she was here thinking we would end up fucking.
Her intentions became clearer when she walked around my desk and attempted to straddle my lap.
I placed my hands on her arms, pushing her back as I stood from my chair.
“What wrong?” She frowned in confusion.
“Look, I know I went ghost on you without telling you anything but this arrangement between us is done.”
“What?” she asked with hurt in her eyes.
“I have a woman now. Things have been a little hectic, which is why I wasn’t answering your calls. I was eventually going to text you and let you know that we couldn’t hook up anymore.”
“Text me?!” she shouted, sounding offended.
“Lower your voice. This is my job, Jamie,” I gritted.
“What do you mean you have a woman?” she growled. “You were just in my bed three weeks ago.”
My brows pinched in confusion as she was giving off a possessive attitude. She acted like we were exclusive. I was screwing one of the other bartenders and she knew. We even had a threesome. So, I was completely taken aback by her reaction to this.
“And I was in Tiffany’s bed two days before you,” I said, referring to the other bartender.
“Let's not play dense here, Capone. You told me you weren’t looking for exclusivity and I tolerated that because I like you. But we both know I was your main woman. We were hooking up at least three times a week,” she hissed.
Main women? Was this girl insane?
“I’m not trying to hurt your feelings, Jamie, but it was just sex. I told you that, but you just forgot about that part. If your feelings are hurt, then I apologize. I thought we were on the same page and understood what this was.”
Her tears fell and a part of me felt bad.
I wasn’t heartless. But at the same time, how guilty could I feel?
I didn’t know she was harboring these feelings for me.
I naturally thought she was okay with just sex.
If I had even an inkling that she was feeling something other than a physical attraction, I would have cut her off.
“Capone, please don’t do this. I love you.”
What the fuck?
“Jamie, you don’t love me. You don’t even know me.”
“How can you say that? We spent all that time together. Of course, I know you.”
“What’s my real name?”
Silence.
“What about my favorite food?”
Silence.
“How many siblings do I have? What sport did I play as a child? How many years did I spend in the Marines?”
More silence.
“My point exactly, Jamie. You don’t know me to love me. Now, if you were sitting around expecting me to settle down with you, that’s not on me. I told you what this was from day one.”
More tears slid down her face. She grabbed hold of my shirt, sobbing. “Please don’t do this, Capone. We can make this work. I can be the woman you need. Just let me show you, baby.”
She wrapped her around the back of my neck and tried to pull me toward her lips. Jamie put up a fight as she tried forcing herself on me.
My patience and empathy were now gone.
“Enough, Jamie!” I snapped. “This is done and over. You need to leave.”
Just then, there was another knock on my door. Cara stepped into my office and froze when she saw how distraught Jamie was.
“Umm…if I’m interrupting something, I can come back.”
“No need. Jamie was just leaving,” I told Cara.
“Capone,” Jamie whimpered, taking a step toward me.
“Goodbye, Jamie.” I dismissed her. I tried being gentle and she didn’t respond well to that.
Taking a shaky step back, Jamie stared at me, appearing crushed. After a few moments, she rushed out of my office, sobbing into her hands.
Cara stood near the door with her brows bunched and her lips pursed. She looked between the empty doorway and me, perplexed.
“Cara,” I started, but she raised her hands in surrender.
“Hey, it ain’t my business. But I’ll tell you one thing, you better get that in check. I saw that look in her eyes.”
“Every woman isn’t Candy or Ivy, Cara.”
Viper and Blade had their work cut out for them when they claimed their women.
They both had women who refused to let them go.
Candy schemed against Cara so many times, Cara was forced to kill her.
And Ivy went as far as scaring Bianca away when she found out she was pregnant with Blade’s daughters.
He missed out on three years of their lives.
Once Bianca came back into the picture, Ivy lost her shit.
She tried killing Bianca even though she knew if she did, she would be signing her own death warrant. Luckily, Bianca came out of the situation unharmed. Ivy, on the other hand, had been locked away in a mental institution where she would never see the light of day.
“I don’t know why I try talking sense into you guys. You all never listen, but that’s okay. Me and my Glock will be sitting here waiting when she finally decides to get crazy.”
Shaking my head, I laughed as I took a seat behind my desk. “What brings you by my office, boss lady?”
Cara grinned, nodding her head in approval. “I like that. It has a nice ring to it. I came by because I just got off the phone with Mercury.”
I sat up, growing serious. “What did he want?”
“He wants Sara and I to conduct an interrogation with Asha. Apparently, her family has hired the best defense attorney in Washington. After the way Danny and Nicole screwed up this case, he doesn’t want them anywhere near it.
Mercury doesn’t want this going to court.
Even though there’s strong evidence pointing toward Asha for Derek’s murder, there’s still some wiggle room to get her off.
The best way to get her to go down for Derek’s murder is to get a confession. ”
“Do you think you can get it?”
Cara raised a brow with a cocky expression. “Does a bear shit in the woods?” she asked. We both laughed as she stood from her seat. “Make sure you tell Giovanna. I know she’ll probably want to tag along, and I already got the green light for her to watch the interrogation if she chooses to.”
“When do you leave?”
“In two days.”
“Okay. I’ll let her know when I get home.”
