“Cool.” She nodded and headed for the door. Before she walked out, she stopped in a rush as if she forgot something. “One more thing. Can you tell Giovanna I’m in need of another batch of honeybuns? The triplets got into my stash and robbed me blind.”
I threw my head back, roaring with laughter. I really needed to taste these honeybuns. Cara was paying Giovanna a hundred dollars per batch even though Giovanna told her it wasn’t necessary.
“Sure thing, Cara.”
Stepping through the front door of my home, the smell of food wafted in the air.
I could get used to this. I spotted Gabi, sitting at the coffee table, coloring in the living room, and watching her favorite cartoon Bubble Guppies .
Hearing the front door open, her head snapped up.
When she saw me standing there, she abandoned her crayons and ran to me.
“Pony!” she shrieked happily.
I swept her into my arms. “Hey, Lil Bit. How was your day?”
“Good. I saw fish.”
I turned to Giovanna. She had stepped out of the kitchen hearing the commotion. “We went to an aquarium today.”
“And you didn’t tell me?” I asked as I felt slightly frustrated. I loved taking Gabi to all the tourist spots. We had been to a few museums, and we were already planning a trip to Disney World with the rest of the families.
“I’m sorry, babe. It was a last-minute thing. Angel, Mari, Naomi, and Abi were demanding to see Gabi today. Crystal and I met up so they could spend time together.”
Hearing that, I instantly softened up. Those five truly were becoming thick as thieves. The Ol’ Ladies had started referring to them as the “Fab Five.” They always wanted to be together. There were times when Giovanna, Cara, and Bianca would have to FaceTime each other just to sate the girls.
“Well, did you have fun, Lil Bit?”
“Yup,” she said and rested her head on my shoulder.
Giovanna giggled, watching the two of us. She swore Gabi had me wrapped around her finger and she might be right.
“I swear she only acts like her legs don’t work when you’re around.”
“So? Don’t worry about us. If Baby Girl wants to be carried, then I got her.”
“Is that right?”
“Sure is.” I wrapped my free arm around her, dropping a quick kiss to her lips.
I felt Giovanna stiffen in my arms. I knew it wasn’t from the kiss.
Although we weren’t flat out making out in front of Gabi, I would still be openly affectionate with Giovanna in Gabi’s presence. “What is it?” I questioned.
“Why do you smell like perfume?”
Oh fuck. Jamie.
I placed Gabi on her feet. She pouted at me, not ready to be let down. “Go color for me and I’ll be over in a second to join you.”
“Okay.” She raced off happily and resumed her television show.
I grabbed Giovanna’s hand and led her into the kitchen. She tried snatching it away, but I wasn’t going for it. I wasn’t going to let this come between us. I knew she was probably thinking I was just like Derek.
“Someone I was seeing before you came by office today.”
“And exactly how did that lead to you smelling like her perfume?” she asked with an accusatory tone.
“She tried coming on to me, but I pushed her away.”
Giovanna looked at me with a blank expression, as if she didn’t believe me. When she tried to storm away, I picked her up off her feet.
“Let me down!” she shouted.
I smacked her ass in warning. “Calm down before you frighten, Lil Bit.” I placed her on the counter, stepping between her legs.
Giovanna’s eyes were slits as she stared at me defiantly.
“Let's get something crystal clear here, baby. I’m a man not a little boy. I don’t need to lie to you.
I understand Derek’s betrayal has you resistant to trust so easily but I’m not him. ”
I grabbed my phone from my pocket and pulled up the camera feed from the job. The only places Cara didn’t have cameras in the building were the bathrooms and the showers in the gym.
I placed the phone in Giovanna’s hand so she could watch.
The only cameras that didn’t have audio were the offices and conference room because we discuss confidential information in those rooms. I also had the power to disconnect the camera in my office at any time I needed complete privacy.
I was grateful there wasn’t any audio though.
I didn’t want to know what Giovanna would think if she heard all of what Jamie had said.
Once the footage was done, all of Giovanna’s anger seemed to melt away as she stared at me sheepishly.
“I’m sorry. I’m really trying not to bring what Derek did into what we’re building, but sometimes I wonder why the hell you want to be with me.”
“The hell you mean? You’re fuckin’ perfect, baby. Any man would be lucky to have you, but they can’t because I would kill ‘em.” Giovanna laughed, taking my words as a joke. “I’m serious, Sugar.”
She slapped the back of her hand against my chest. “You can't go around saying things like that, Luca.”
“Why the hell not? It’s the truth.” She shook her head, but she couldn’t fight off that smile even if she tried.
“You’re crazy,” she accused.
“I am. About you.” She melted against me. “I know building trust takes time, but don’t hold his sins against me. I will never lie to you, and I will never betray you in any way. Okay?” She nodded her head with a small smile. “Now, give me some sugar, Sugar.”
She threw her head back, bursting into a fit of giggles. “That was sooo corny.”
I couldn’t help but smile back at her. “Yeah, but you like it.”
“I do,” she said as she wrapped her arms around my neck, bringing her lips to mine.
I wrapped my hand around her neck, knowing the notion would cause her to soak her panties. The first time I did this, I wasn’t sure how she would feel, but when her walls spasmed around my fingers and she leaked all over my hand, I knew she was turned on.
She moaned when I took her bottom lip into my mouth and nibbled. After I’d gotten my fill, I pulled away. Giovanna leaned forward, not ready to be done.
“Luca,” she whined, grabbing my arm to try to pull me back.
“Giovanna,” I said with amusement.
“What?”
“Something’s burning.”
Her eyes popped open and the lust was gone. “Oh crap. The chicken.” She scurried to the oven to pull the pan out. When she removed the foil, revealing the chicken that was a few minutes from being burned to a crisp, I chuckled.
“Guess we’re going to the clubhouse for dinner tonight.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. Just know you’re no longer allowed in here when I’m cooking.”
“Whatever you say, Sugar.”
I walked away, smiling from ear to ear. Even though we hadn’t talked about her moving here, it was moments like this that let me know she was already considering it. There have been several times she referred to my home as hers. Soon enough, it would be.
All I had to do was keep showing her she was meant to be mine. Life with her was perfect and I’d do whatever it took to keep her.
