Page 92 of By Invitation Only
“Very.”
And there went my heart again. The butterflies were swarming around it, making it come to life.
After we had left our belongings at the coat check, we stepped through the velvet drapes. I didn’t know where the others had gone, and I was okay with that. Like I’d mentioned to Lorelei as we were getting ready, I wasn’t ready to see my best friend, who was also my assistant, get down and dirty, and I didn’t want her to see anything on my end either.
Booker led me by the hand to the bar that overlooked the pool. It was the only one I’d been to. “What do you want to drink, baby?”
I blinked, trying to remember what fancy brands they had. I couldn’t remember what Booker had told me, so I just said, “Vodka cranberry.”
“With the good vodka?” He smiled.
I shrugged. “Might as well. Whatever that is.”
“They haveBeluga.”
I shrugged again. “Whatever.”
Booker ordered my vodka cranberry, and aBelugaand water for himself. I took a sip and tasted nothing except the cranberry juice like I had the other times I’d been to Sensation. When we did the vodka tasting at Rick’s, that shit burned. My cocktail tonight was tart, a little sour, and if I hadn’t seen the bartender pour the vodka into the glass, I’d think I was drinking only the juice. Maybe that was why this was thegoodstuff.
“Ready?”
I nodded, and Booker grabbed my hand again. As we walked through the house, people were already starting to get into the action. Before becoming a guest of Booker’s, I had to provide proof I was clean from any STDs. I had to do the same the time before when I was a guest of Ava’s. I wasn’t sure how it worked for members, but I assumed it was similar to what I was asked before becoming a guest each time. Each time, I had to provide proof that I was clean if I had partners other than with members. Of course there was a chance people would lie and say they hadn’t had sex with anyone else, but if word got out that Haley Snow from one of the hottest cop shows on TV had contracted a disease from a sex club, that would turn ugly. Members paid good money, and therefore, wouldn’t want to jeopardize anything.
We stopped at a set of double doors accented with molding in the middle, making it look elegant to fit the vibe of the house. Booker showed a man in a suit with an earpiece his card, and then we were given a nod.
“Ready?”
“I… I guess,” I stammered. At this point, I wasn’t sure anything would surprise me.
We entered a room the size of my living room and kitchen combined. Instead of red lights, yellow ones were scattered throughout that shot up the walls from the floor. The room felt warm and somehow inviting. People sat in chairs around a stage that was raised to eye level. Behind them, people flanked the walls, and couples stood talking and sipping drinks. For some reason, I expected to walk into a room where people were already fucking.
I looked up at Booker. “What’s happening?”
“Hasn’t started yet.” He looked at his watch. “Starts in ten minutes.”
“Ah.” Booker led me to a spot on the wall, and I stood next to him, his hand still holding mine. I took a sip of my drink before asking, “Is every time the same?”
“No.” He shook his head. “Each one is different, and we don’t know what it’s going to be.”
“Interesting.” I nodded.
Before I could ask more, a brunette with stunning green eyes walked up to us. “Hey, Book, how are you?”
His eyes cut to me before he responded. “Brilliant, Tammy, you?”
“I’m well.” She looked down at our clasped hands. “Maybe when you’re done with her, we could use your room?”
My body went tight at her words. What the fuck?
Booker dropped my hand and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, bringing me closer to him. I fit perfectly under his arm, my shoulder the right height to slide into him. “While I’m flattered, Tammy, this is my girlfriend.”
Her emerald eyes moved back to me and gave me a once over. “Girlfriend? Since when?”
“That’s none of your concern,love.”
I took a long sip of my drink.
She chuckled. “Well, my offer will still stand once you get tired of yourgirlfriend.”
