Page 38 of By Invitation Only
“Why do I need to wait until then?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Because it’s confidential, and you’re in the mindset that only secret stuff can happen at the club. So I’m going to play your game. The ball’s in your court, gorgeous.”
“I hear you’re mad at Carrie?”
I looked up to see my friend Randy strolling through my office door. He worked for Lee and Thompson with me. He had red, slick-backed hair, a red beard and green eyes. We worked out together at the gym, so it was safe to say he was fit. He was also a member of Sensation.
“Piss off, mate. This is between mywifeand me,” I clipped.
He closed the door and walked to the chair at my desk. “Tell me what happened.”
I rolled my eyes and instantly thought of Peyton. “Carrie didn’t tell you?”
“She only told me that you were mad at her and that I should talk to you today.”
I shook my head, annoyed. “So you could smooth things over?”
Randy shrugged. “I guess. Just tell me what happened, or I’ll get Amelia to hound you.”
Of course Carrie would sic people on me who knew our situation. “She told someone at Sensation that we’re married,” I answered.
He arched an eyebrow. “Really? Who?”
I sighed. “Some bird I fucked.”
I hated calling Peyton “some bird.” She was more than that to me—or had been. Since the ball was in her court, anything was bound to happen. If I didn’t see her at Sensation again, then I’d know it wasn’t more than sex to her.
“Big deal.”
I shook my head. “It is a big deal. It’s…” I hesitated because he knew Peyton. He had cases against her too.
“It’s?”
“Peyton Winters.”
His green eyes widened. “Peyton Winters from Chandler and Patterson?”
I nodded. “That’s the one.”
He grinned. “You mean to tell me that you banged one of the hottest attorneys in Beverly Hills?”
My eyebrows arched. “Why is that so hard to believe?” I mean, I was Booker Jameson. People referred to me as a womanizer, and I was okay with that because I wasn’t looking to settle down. Well, not that I could. I wasmarriedafter all.
“Well, for one, she was at Sensation Saturday? I didn’t see her.”
“She’s representing Ava Ashley. She’s getting divorced from Trent, and Peyton came with Ava so she could serve Trent at the club.”
“Well, fuck me. I missed a lot Saturday.” He chuckled. I watched as he crossed his leg over his opposite knee and got comfortable. “How was she?”
“Good enough so I want to fuck her again,” I admitted. I wasn’t going to give him more info than that.
“You? Booker Jameson want to go back for seconds?”
And thirds. And fourths. And then top it off with an all-night buffet again.
I smirked, not answering.
“Damn, Book.” His forehead crinkled. “Wait. What about your clients? What about Trent? Does he know?”
