Story: CeCe Sloan is Swooning
They sat down and sampled the food and drank more wine. CeCe shared a few stories from the shenanigans at the salon over the last few days. Their laughter echoed into the air as the lights of the city twinkled around them.
As it grew darker Alexis looked around then set down her glass. “Let me show you why we’re here.”
“You didn’t tell me how we got here. Who do you know?” CeCe asked, taking Alexis's offered hand.
“One of the doctors in my clinic has an apartment in this building. I inquired about the roof access and she was happy to help out.”
“I see. Did you tell her why you wanted to come here?”
“I did. After she picked her jaw up from the floor, she was more than happy to help me. It seems a few people, namely my office manager and a couple of colleagues, have noticed a change in my demeanor since the weekend.”
“Is that right?” CeCe said with an exaggerated southern drawl.
Alexis took CeCe’s shoulders and turned her around.
“Oh my God, Alexis,” she exclaimed. “This is amazing.”
“So are you,” Alexis replied softly.
Between two of the tall buildings there was a view of the night sky. It wasn’t completely dark yet, so the sky looked dark blue. The buildings provided a shield to block out the lights of the city and a beautiful crescent moon appeared in the cobalt sky. There were two stars just below the crescent shape and it looked like the moon had tipped over and the stars had spilled from it.
“Those bright stars below the moon are actually Venus and Jupiter,” Alexis explained. “The larger and brighter one is Venus and the other is Jupiter.”
“It’s incredible,” CeCe said with awe in her voice.
“Do you remember the other night when I was late leaving the hospital?”
“Yes,” CeCe replied.
“I noticed the moon and the planets on my drive home. I meant for us to look for it at the lake, but I forgot.”
CeCe chuckled and put her arm around Alexis's shoulders. “I can’t imagine why you’d forget,” she teased.
“Me neither. Surely it didn’t have anything to do with you.”
“This is beautiful, Lex.”
“I wanted to do something special. Anyone can go out to dinner for a first date. I wasn’t sure we’d be able to see the moon, but I knew the view from up here would be gorgeous, just like you.”
CeCe put her finger on Alexis's chin and turned her face towards her for a quick kiss. “I know we won’t be able to see this celestial show for long, but it’s so romantic I had to kiss you.”
“I am not known for being romantic, but I swear, CeCe, you have done something to me.”
“I hope it’s a good thing.”
Alexis nuzzled CeCe’s neck and kissed below her ear. “It’s a very good thing.”
As they gazed at the moon, planets, and stars, Alexis topped off CeCe’s wine. “Are we officially dating now?”
CeCe smiled and sipped her wine. “I remember you telling me that you don’t date.”
“I didn’t, but now I do. Well, I want to date you,” Alexis said with hope in her voice.
CeCe laughed. “Are you asking me to go steady?” she teased. “Who are we kidding? We’ve been dating since we both can’t seem to keep our hands off each other.”
Alexis reached out and took CeCe’s hand in hers. “How true. I was wondering…”
“Yes?”
