Story: CeCe Sloan is Swooning
“Thanks,” Alexis shrugged. “It’s a place to sleep and it’s a good investment.”
CeCe looked around the living area and didn’t see many personal touches. “Wait until you see mine. It has a more lived-in look.”
Alexis smiled. “I imagine yours looks more like a home.”
“This looks more like Dr. Reed than…” CeCe paused to find the right words.
Alexis raised her eyebrows waiting. “Than?”
“Than the Lex, who I’m dating.”
“Are we dating?”
“How quickly you forget. Didn’t we just have our first date two days ago?” CeCe teased.
Alexis took CeCe’s hands in hers. “I’ll never forget our first date.” She leaned in and kissed CeCe softly. “Is this our first weekend away?”
CeCe shrugged. “We’ll see.” She pressed her lips to Alexis's and liked this little playful banter between them. “Ready to go?”
Alexis nodded, but didn’t let go of CeCe’s hands. She gazed into her eyes and CeCe felt those butterflies in her stomach again.
Alexis let her hands go and grabbed her bag that was sitting on the couch. “I’ll give you a tour when you bring me home.”
CeCe nodded. “Well then, let’s go to Lovers Landing.”
It was a thirty minute drive to the lake and Melanie had texted them earlier that she would meet them at the restaurant of the resort.
“You never did explain to me how you got us invited to Lovers Landing,” Alexis asked.
“I’m not sure how it happened. We were talking about what a brilliant surgeon you are,” CeCe said, reaching over for Alexis's hand. She laced her fingers through Alexis's and continued. “I mentioned that you were also my client.”
“Not any longer.”
CeCe laughed. “My big-mouthed sisters said something about our mutual crush and from there Melanie’s imagination went into overdrive. She had it all planned before I knew what happened.”
“But Melanie said it was a non-date,” Alexis said.
“That’s because I told her I didn’t date my clients. She really wanted us to come out. It seems that we have both been out there at separate times and they like us.”
“I like us, too.” Alexis squeezed CeCe’s hand.
CeCe glanced over at her and smiled. Alexis was showing her this soft side more often and CeCe loved it. She couldn’t keep from wondering who else was lucky enough to see this side of Alexis. CeCe hoped this would be an opportunity to relax and get to know more about Alexis.
A short time later they pulled into the parking lot of Lovers Landing.
“I love it here,” Alexis said, gazing down towards the lake.
“I didn’t know you were the outdoorsy type,” CeCe replied.
“I wouldn’t say that.” Alexis reached for CeCe’s hand. “But I do like sitting by the water, perhaps enjoying a cocktail.” She grinned at CeCe.
CeCe smiled back and took a moment to enjoy the fact that Alexis had taken her hand. She never had a problem with little public displays of affection: a touch here, maybe a quick kiss. But that wasn’t always the case with other people she'd dated. CeCe thought back to the sweet kisses she and Alexis shared outside the diner and her stomach did another little flip flop. What is wrong with me, she thought. We’re just holding hands.
Alexis tilted her head. “Are you all right?”
“Yeah.” CeCe nodded. “I’m really glad we’re here together.”
“Me, too,” Alexis said, then led them to the door and opened it for CeCe. “After you, beautiful.”
