Page 70 of Skye's Fall
“Hey,” she says softly.
“Hey.” Well, this is awkward.
“I’m not here to cause problems. I am sorry,” she says sadly. Why is she here?
“For?”
“I knew Lily and Kelsey before the show. I only came on to help them. I was supposed to make friends with you and report everything you said to them.”
“Why?”
“I’m not sure why exactly. They never told me.” I watch to see if she’s lying, but I don’t think she is. I think they kept her in the dark as to why they needed information.
“What did you tell them?”
“Nothing actually. I met you and felt like you were a kindred spirit. I didn’t want to hurt you.”
“I called you a friend.”
“I’m really sorry. I was stupid. I just wanted to be liked.”
“You were.” Why do girls always act like that? Wanting to follow the one who causes the most drama? I will never understand. I didn’t understand why I did it.
“I know. I got so caught up in everything that I didn’t take into account your feelings.”
“Thank you for apologizing. It will take a bit, but I’ll forgive you eventually.”
“Thank you for talking to me. I don’t want to intrude, but I’ll be around. I have to make amends with another person.” She turns on her heels and walks out.
“What was that all about?” Snow asks.
“She apologized. Apparently, she knew Kelsey and Lily. She was supposed to tell them everything I said.”
“Did she?” Mckenna asks.
“She says she didn’t, but who knows,” I reply.
“Some people never grow up,” Ariel mutters and I agree with her.
“To new beginnings,” Alexa toasts. We toast and talk until closing. Ever suggests a sleepover, popcorn and movies. I honestly admit that I’ve never done one before and Ever wants to make it a night I’ll remember.
“No boys allowed, not tonight,” she tells us and we all laugh. Tomorrow, I will have my man . . . I hope.
Chapter Thirty-Five
Lincoln
Ever meets me at the door and opens it before I can knock.
“Breakfast is ready. Before you go to the barn, I was wondering if you could run some errands with me,” she’s practically pushing me into the kitchen.
Now I’m suspicious. She’s being pushy and I think she’s lying about shoeing a horse. And errands? Why didn’t she go with Memphis?
“Because.” I must have spoken that last part out loud, but “because” is not an answer. I need more than that.
She sets a plate down and I’m worried about being drugged and shit. Even Memphis was weird on the phone. Are they secret serial killers?
Ever starts laughing.
