Page 44 of Skye's Fall
“What’s tomorrow?” Bobby asks and I swear Sal’s grin looks almost malicious.
“A surprise,” and with that, he just walks off.
I turn to head to the barn, needing to clear my head. Victoria rushes after me. “Wait up.”
“I know we’re partners, but I need a minute,” I snap at her and she pouts. If she thinks anything is happening with her, she’s delirious. Never in a million years would I be with her. The last girl I was with, I was in love with, and she’s just around the corner. Who am I kidding? I still love her.
“Oh,” she looks down. I ignore her as I start mucking the stalls. She stands there for a while and then runs out. Since we all seem to be back in high school and women are catty bitches, I’m pretty sure she’s going to say I gave her the ride of her life.
She’ll do it just to get back at Skye. Does she deserve it? I don’t know. I just need to breathe for a moment. I’m kind of regretting saying yes to this.
Chapter Twenty-Four
Skye
“He’s so dreamy,” I hear Victoria whisper to Kara.
“Is he a good kisser?”
“He so is,” Victoria lies through her teeth.
I know she didn’t kiss him. She’s just trying to get under my skin. Or maybe he did to get back at me. I wish he would have talked to me.
Oh well.
“Don’t let them get to you,” Alexa says as we sit down on the porch, away from the others. I’m still trying to figure Mallory out. She’s been weird ever since the bar and I don’t have a good feeling about her. I thought she was a friend. Do I even have friends? I have Ever and Ivy and Ariel.
“Why do girls act like that?” I ponder.
“They want attention,” Snow chimes in.
“Victoria is an only child so she’s always had attention and she always gets what she wants because of her parents. When she doesn’t get it from others, she acts like a bitch,” Alexa points out.
“Sounds familiar,” Mallory retorts.
“What now?” I think we should have this out.
“Nothing,” she gets up and walks away, heading toward her cabin.
“What is her problem?”
“I don’t know,” I say, watching as Ivy and Ever take a seat on the other swing.
“Ladies, how’s it going?” Ivy asks.
“I’m ready for this to be over with. Pretty sure I didn’t find a love match,” Alexa says sadly.
“Just because you didn’t find it here, doesn’t mean it’s not out there. Your Prince Charming could be out there looking for you, and he will find you,” Ever says and I nod.
“You think?” Alexa asks.
“I know,” Ever winks at her.
“Bobby is cute, though,” Alexa looks toward the guys and blushes.
“Give him a shot,” Ivy smiles at her.
I can’t look in the direction of the barn. My heart is in there and I don’t know how to fix it between us.
