Page 81 of Saving Soul
Grayson swallowed back emotion as he gazed into his wife’s eyes. “And we love you so much.”
Josie kissed Harrison’s forehead before relishing her husband’s lips. “And I love you too.”
I grasped my bracelets, endeavoring to block their energy, but it was so beautiful I let a little seep through. The love they had for each other was intoxicating.
Knowing Adam would be arriving soon, and Marc was due for Liam’s check-up, I asked Warren to drive me to the beach. I was free to do as I pleased over the holidays, so I took the opportunity to cleanse my crystals. It was going to take all my strength to combat the entire Harlow family over the next four days, so I needed every edge.
I arrived back at Harlow Manor in the early evening, after Warren was summoned back to the estate to take Grayson and Adam out. I was hoping to avoid Adam altogether, but the universe had other plans, and when the car pulled up, it was Adam who opened my door like the chivalrous man he was not.
“Hey, Cass,” he said softly as I stepped out.
Pain radiated through my chest when our eyes met—his or mine, I couldn’t tell. “Hi, Adam.”
“How are you?”
“Fine, thanks. You?”
“I’ve had better weeks.”
My jaw tightened as I tried not to care.
“Sorry, Cass,” Grayson called out as he jogged down the entrance steps. “I was happy to book a taxi, but someone was adamant about using our driver.”
“It’s fine. I was ready to come back anyway.”
Adam pressed his lips together and looked off into the distance while Grayson sidled up beside him.
“Josie told me to tell you she has wine and pizza in our room, if you’re interested.” Worry flickered through his aura. “I know she’d love the company.”
I smiled his way. “That sounds nice. I’ll head up there now.”
“Thanks, Cassidy.”
As Grayson jumped into the car, my gaze traveled back to Adam when he didn’t move.
“You coming?” Grayson yelled out.
“Yeah.” Adam gave me a‘we’ll talk later’glare before climbing in. “Let’s go.”
Straightening my back as he closed the door, I spun on my heel and marched toward the house, feeling Adam’s eyes on me at every step. It looked like I’d be spending the rest of the Thanksgiving holiday locked in my bedroom, which was fine with me. A good book and a direct line of communication with my son was all I needed to feel grateful.
Once I reached the top of the staircase, I turned right, instead of left, to enter the west wing of the house. I rarely ventured to this side, for fear of getting lost, but from the music blaring up ahead, I was heading in the right direction.
I peeked my head around the open door. “Hey, Josie.”
“Cassidy! You came!” Josie mumbled excitedly through a mouthful of pizza. She motioned me to their couch as she swallowed her food. “Please sit, eat, and listen to music with me!”
With a laugh, I sank onto the chair opposite and peered around their room. It was even bigger than mine.
“As you can probably tell, I’m a little excited about having a break from my son,” she said, turning down the music.
“Where is he?” I asked, glancing around the room with a frown.
“He fell asleep in Gramps’ room, so he told me to leave him there until he wakes.”
“Oh, Liam would love that.”
“I wish Mrs. Fredrich did. Apparently, babies aren’t in her job description, so we’ve set up a monitor.” She pointed down at the little screen on the coffee table. “If he cries, I have to be up there within twenty seconds.”
