Page 75 of Saving Soul
As he approached the shelves full of fruit preserves, my gaze traveled to his ass, then traced up his muscular back and across his broad shoulders.
“Close your eyes,” he said as he ran his fingers over the jars.
I’d assumed I’d been busted perving on his godlike body until I realized he simply wanted to keep Max’s hiding place a secret. With a roll of my eyes, I closed them. “I’m hardly going to steal your precious ice cream.”
“You haven’t tasted it yet,” he said, clinking jars around. “When Grayson and I were little, we used to sneak downstairs once everyone was asleep and devour every sweet we could find in here.” He snickered. “Until our mother caught us, that is. We weren’t allowed treats, so she demanded all the good stuff be locked away.”
“But you’re grown now. Surely you have some self-control.”
There was a short silence before his husky voice sounded only a few feet away. “Apparently not.”
I opened my eyes to find his gaze glued to my body. My robe had come undone, giving him a full view of every curve. With a growl, I quickly wrapped myself back up. “So, did you find the key?”
His jaw clenched as he dragged his eyes away. “Of course.” He moved toward another freezer and unlocked it. “I never told Grayson, though.”
“That’s mean.”
Adam shrugged. “I’m not much of a sharer. Plus…”—his twinkling eyes met mine— “It’s nice to have a few secrets…don’t you think?”
My mouth parted at his suggestive smile.
He held up two tubs. “Mint chocolate chip or vanilla?”
It took me a moment to respond. “Vanilla,” I finally said, a little breathless.
With a chuckle, he returned the vanilla to the freezer. “Mint chocolate chip, it is.”
“But I said—”
“I think you’re done with vanilla.” He rummaged through a drawer for two spoons before turning to me with a raised brow. “Don’t you think?”
I gnashed my teeth at his meaning. “Fine.” I reached for the ice cream. “Hand it over.”
Adam opened the tub and leaned against the opposite bench, grinning as he dug his spoon inside.
“Quit teasing, and give it to me.”
He pushed off the bench. “Easy, Tiger,” he said, moving to my side to place the tub on the counter between us.
I snatched the spare spoon from his hand and perched myself on the bench to create more space between us.
As Adam filled his mouth, I scooped up a spoonful and joined him. “Oh,” I gushed. “Wow.”
He rolled his tongue over his smirking lips. “I bet you’re not thinking of vanilla now.”
“Vanilla who?” I dove in again. His sexual innuendo was lost on me now.
“Andthisis why I didn’t show you where the key is.”
“Excuse me,” I scoffed. “I have self-control.”
“You pretend you do.”
“I don’tpretendanything.”
“You pretend like you don’t like these little games we play.” He drew circles over my knee, like he had in the limo.
I squirmed under his touch, fighting the all-encompassing desire he induced. “I don’t play games.”
