“Well…I’m fine with that.”
As I attempted to step out of Adam’s grasp, his fingers tightened around my hip and pulled me closer. “You knowwhyyou’ll be fine with that?”
I exhaled. “Enlighten me.”
“Because while you’re lying there…” His eyes grew dark. “Spread-eagle…” His hand moved down the curve of my body. “You’ll be imaging all the thingswedid together.” His hand slid under my dress, then in-between my thighs, cupping my mound. “The angles…” His thumb rubbed my nub. “The thrusts…” His fingers drew the thin material aside. “And the screams…” he uttered before sliding his finger through my seam.
“Oh God,” I gasped as my knees buckled.
“But you know what the problem with that is?” he asked, delving in and out as he stared into my eyes.
I shook my head, unable to speak as the pressure built.
“Because when you’re almost there…” His lips hovered over mine. “When you’re about to feel howImade you feel…” He pulled out his finger. “He’ll roll over and go to sleep.”
Gasping at his abrupt departure, rage flowed through my veins as I peered up into the eyes of Satan. “You’re a fucking jerk.” Shoving him out of the way, I stormed toward the door, nevereverwanting to see him again.
“You should really change before the doc gets here,” he called out.
I whirled around, burning with fury. “Why? Because he might actually find me attractive?”
“No…” The corner of his mouth twitched. “Because your underwear is dripping.”

Idid change. But into something much prettier.
After a long tear-infused shower, I blow-dried my hair, applied a little extra make-up to hide my puffy eyes and slipped into the green dress I wore the night I met Adam. If it worked on him, Marc was bound to appreciate it also—even better if Adam bore witness.
Before the doctor arrived, I walked into Liam’s room where Adam was sitting beside him, reading a book. I refused to look his way as I approached his grandfather’s bedside, but when Adam stumbled on his words, I knew he’d noticed my dress.
“My, oh my,” Liam gushed. “Don’t you look lovely.”
“Thank you, Liam.”
“But what happened to the other dress?”
I peeked at Adam to find his lips pursed and gaze tapered. “A silly accident that should never have happened. But this dress is much nicer, don’t you think?”
“The doc won’t be able to hear my heartbeat over his own.”
“Oh stop.” I giggled.
Adam slammed the book closed and leaned back in his chair, checking his watch. “He’s late.”
“Relax, Adam. You won’t miss your flight.”
I met his fiery gaze with a smirk. “We’ll make sure of it.”
“I think it’s time I invested in my own plane.” He rubbed his tense jaw. “Since Mom and Dad hijacked yours.”
My brows rose.
“What?” he asked, seemingly impatient with me.
“Oh, nothing.” I’d never even been on a plane, and he was talking about buying his own. How different our worlds were.
A knock on the door drew our attention. “Doctor Morrison has arrived,” Max said, ushering Marc into the room.
