“What was that?” I spat, glaring outside, expecting to see the wing on fire.

“Relax, Cass. It’s the landing gear.”

“Oh.” My heart rate slowed. “Planes are so much scarier than helicopters.”

“Want me to hold your hand again?”

“No.” I tightened my seatbelt until I could barely breathe. “I’m fine.” And I was…until the wheels hit the tarmac.

With a gasp, I latched onto Adam’s hand and didn’t let go.

He grazed his thumb over my knuckles as the plane slowed. “You can breathe now.”

I snatched my hand away. “I know that.”

Adam chuckled to himself before turning to Finn. “So, what do you think? Prefer flying to driving?”

“Flying, definitely! We don’t have to stay in dodgy hotels along the way.”

“It’s either that or sleep in the car, Finn.” I was starting to wish he’d never gotten a taste of the Harlows’ lavish lifestyle.

“Yeah, yeah, I know.”

Adam grumbled. “You won’t have to do that again.”

“This kind of travel is hardly sustainable.”

He raised an eyebrow in a silent challenge before unbuckling his seatbelt. “That’s what you think.”

I opened my mouth to protest but was interrupted by the pilot welcoming us to LA.

After Adam thanked the hostess, he ushered us out of the plane to a waiting limousine.

“This is too much,” I mumbled under my breath as we approached the car.

Adam threw me a glance. “What is?”

“Come on…helicopter, private plane, limo! It’s amazing, but it’s too much.”

Adam stopped abruptly while Finn kept moving. “Will you just let me do something nice for you? You’re not the only one in unfamiliar territory here.”

My mouth parted as I absorbed his uneasiness. “O…okay.”

“Good. Then let’s go.”

“Oh. My. God.” Finn squished his little face against the passenger window as we entered an incredible property in Malibu. “It’s right on the beach!”

My stomach fluttered. “Is this really your house?”

Adam nodded quietly before climbing out of the car and he held the door open as we piled out. “Just wait until you see inside.” After thanking the driver for collecting our bags, Adam motioned us through the front door.

The moment I stepped over the threshold, I was too stunned to speak. The wide entrance hall opened out into a huge open living space filled with an impressive kitchen and a massive living and dining area that overlooked the most spectacular view of the beach I’d ever seen.Thiswas my dream house.

“You can’t possibly live here.” I took in the spotless, crisp, white interior and the notable fact that there wasn’t a personal item in sight.

“I plan to…one day.” He dropped his wallet and phone onto the kitchen counter. “Until then, I guess it’s more of a vacation property.”

“But you don’t take vacations.”
