Hannah

Three Months Later

Looking at the paperwork on my desk, I sigh and lean back in my chair.

Reports from Fabian and Miella have been coming in about the packs facing restructuring because of the bullshit they kept hidden behind their walls, namely keeping rogues in the dungeons as breeders to grow their packs.

I was appalled when I learned about this and offered to send Claira and Mavric to help with the restructuring, but Julian turned me down, stating it was his fault for not going on a tour annually due to his need to find his mate while going through frequent and intense ruts.

Now, his work has become a lot harder to deal with because of this; the only positive thing is that since he marked me, his ruts have stopped entirely.

Hell, I think they stopped because he and I fucked when I was in heat.

His animal urges were satiated while fucking me senseless during those three days.

“Hannah, are you free?” The door to my office opens, and Jiya walks in, a smile on her face. Her body is wrapped in a sari, and she looks ready to celebrate Diwali at the temple in Ottawa.

“Just finishing some paperwork,” I answer, running a hand through my hair and grimacing as I remember that I had to cut it into a bob because Mavric accidentally caught it on fire when we were roasting marshmallows the other day.

“I still can’t believe our pack has grown so much in such a short time because Julian announced to the entire werewolf race that you are his mate,” Jiya says, taking a seat in the armchair across from my desk.

“Or that wolves from the royal pack would be coming and going, apologizing to you for their past transgressions and asking for training advice,” Claira’s voice calls from the doorway, and I look up to find my friend walking inside, the fresh mate mark on her neck prominent for all to see.

It turned out that a warrior named Dustin Knox was Claira’s mate.

He was one of the few who neither spread rumors about me nor defended me from them.

He came with some warriors two weeks ago, intending to apologize and make things right when Claira arrived at the pack house after returning with a hunting party.

Her little ruddy brown wolf froze as her eyes zeroed in on Dustin, who was kneeling before me, bowing his head and asking me for forgiveness along with the ten other wolves who were apologizing.

Before anyone could stop her, Claira tackled Dustin to the cold ground and was whimpering as she licked his face.

I immediately called Julian, asking him if I could take Dustin into my pack and explaining that he turned out to be my beta male. Julian wasn’t thrilled about this but agreed that since Haven Trail would soon become a branch of the royal pack, he wasn’t really losing out.

“Honestly, I am tired of them coming to my doorstep. I just wish they would all wait for the ball in a few months,” I say in annoyance.

After taking out the hunters in Timmins, Julian visited the Snow Pine pack before rushing off to the palace.

From what I have heard from the many annoying wolves coming to Haven Trail, he explained the truth about me being his mate, going so far as to explain the accidental rejection he caused and how he learned that I was telling the truth about being mates the first day he arrived at Haven Trail.

There was a lot of pushback from the she-wolves hoping and praying they could sneak into his bed during one of his ruts and have him accidentally mark them.

Miella had a field day putting the fear of the Goddess into them with Julian and Fabian’s permission as the beta female of the pack.

That was another can of worms they had to deal with, as many were shocked to learn that wolves and vampires could be soulmates.

By Aileen’s suggestion, Julian created a team that would scour the library archives for the history of supernatural beings.

Sabrina was sent with Nelson to the royal pack to help search through the Hunter Archives that were found in Timmins, which turned out to be the first hunter base created many years ago.

“So, has lover boy called yet?” Claira asks, bringing me back from my thoughts.

“No, not yet,” I answer, touching my mate mark.

The last time I heard from Julian was three days ago.

He had just reached a pack in British Columbia on Vancouver Island.

From what I remember of Salted Howl, they were a pack that rarely ventured off their island, living off fishing and only going to the mainland to hunt game meat when needed.

I visited them once on a royal tour when I was ten.

My parents brought me along, wanting to expand my knowledge of this world.

They were a kind pack, not wanting any trouble while accepting new wolves into the pack through the Salted Howl wolves finding their mates.

“From what I hear, there is a Hunters Association in Vancouver that ships vampires and rogue werewolves across the world to international hunters and clients wanting a thrill,” I say, closing my eyes and leaning my head back.

“Julian and the wolves there are working on taking this Hunters Association down and planning to capture their headquarters. We plan to make it a trade route for the businesses the royal pack owns.” I grin, thinking about the large warehouse sitting on the coast of the Pacific Ocean.

We will be able to provide goods to the international packs across the world under Julian’s reign.

“Aileen went to meet them to make sure that the vampires there release their blood slaves since they will be taking the hunters,” I add.

After taking out the Hunters Association in Timmins, Aileen flew out there to meet Julian and the coven.

I was conferenced in as I was forbidden from leaving the pack on Dr. Grace’s orders so that I could finish healing.

We came to an agreement that as long as Aileen was involved with each mission, the vampires helping us take down each Hunters Association headquarters would be allowed to take the hunters as blood slaves as long as they released the innocent humans and wiped their memories of the supernatural world.

“At least the vampires are willing to work with us werewolves now. Julian is doing good as the king,” Jiya says with pride in her voice, making me smile.

“Well, he is being a stupid male not calling you in a few days. Hopefully, you hear from him soon, Hannah. You’ve been a little moody without hearing his voice these past three days,” Claira sighs, and I give her a warning growl.

As much as I love my friend, some days I feel like Claira is a little too nonchalant about her role as beta to the luna queen.

“She isn’t wrong, Hannah. You seem a little more moody than usual,” Jiya says, her calm voice filled with concern.

I look at her, searching her eyes and finding her studying me. It seems like she has figured something out about me. “I am just exhausted,” I whisper, averting my gaze from Jiya. “But if it makes you feel better, I will go and get a checkup from Dr. Grace,” I add, wanting to lessen Jiya’s worry.

“Good,” Jiya says, standing from her seat. “Anyway, I am off to the temple. I will see you all tonight.” With that, Jiya leaves my office, her bangles clinking together as she closes the door.

“How is the company going?” I ask, looking at Claira, who grins excitedly at me.

“Going well. Our workers are accepting the fact that I am now the one running the show since you are stepping down to become luna queen. Although we do miss you in the office, Trail Corporation is going strong.”

Happy with this news, I take out a USB flash drive from my desk and throw it at Claira, watching her fumble to catch it.

“What’s this?” she asks, eyeing the flash drive like a little bomb.

“A new program to develop. I have the base of it completed, but I know you can finalize it,” I reply, standing from my chair and stretching. “It’ll take a year with your skills to finalize it and have it released by this time next year.”

She nods, pocketing the flash drive into her blazer before standing as well. My stomach grumbles, and without needing to be told, Claira and I leave my office and head toward the dining hall.

“Well, how is the merging of Haven Trail and the royal pack going?” Claira asks as we descend the stairs.

“Good so far. Our wolves have gone to the royal pack to get a feel for the land with Aliah helping them. Some are even assisting with searching the archives and have found instances of inter-species mating.” I shrug, pride swelling inside me at how adaptable my wolves are.

Julian and I agreed that if we are to merge our two packs together, we need to ensure they are comfortable on our land and accept each other’s rules.

Even now, I can scent out a handful of royal pack wolves in my pack house, hear them laughing up a storm down the hall in the dining hall.

Everyone has slowly become a large family in just three short months, and I couldn’t be happier.

“Well, this is just the beginning of our new life. We still have to head to the ball at the royal pack in three months, and you will be forced to face all the wolves who wronged you there,” Claira points out, and I frown.

I am not looking forward to facing the rest of the wolves in the royal pack.

They all believed I was a gold digger who was holding out for the luna queen throne.

Now that it has been confirmed that I am Julian’s soulmate, the throne rightfully belongs to me.

Those who despise me will have to face two choices in six months: bend the knee and swear their loyalty or be turned rogue and forced to find a new pack.

“This is something we can worry about when the time comes. For now, I want food,” I say dismissively, the smell of barbecue chicken pizza making my stomach growl with hunger.

Giving me a helpless smile, Claira and I line up at the lunch buffet and fill our plates.

I look around the room and smile, happy to see so many cheerful wolves chatting about sparring matches in the training ring or what new job Aidan’s company has planned.

I had done it; I had built a pack where wolves in need of a family could join.

Now, I need to help Julian unite the rest of the packs into one big family and help our kind easily find their mates.
