Page 29 of Rejected and Pregnant by the Alpha (Forbidden Alpha Kings #52)

Julian

Falling back into the office chair, I run my hand through my hair and sigh. Every fiber of my being screams at me to chase after Hannah, but common sense tells me that doing so is the wrong option. Hannah would tear me limb from limb if I went after her, given how she resents me.

“Julian?” Looking up from the table, I find Fabian and Mikos standing there, my beta and theta watching me with worried gazes.

“She hates me, and it’s all my fault,” I state, my voice soft and filled with self-deprecation.

“I always spouted about believing in my mate and swore I would never hurt her. I am a fucking hypocrite.” Fabian sighs at my words, muttering something to Mikos, who, after hesitating for a moment, leaves the conference room.

Fabian moves to sit beside me, pushing the tissue box on the table toward me, and I thank him, wiping away the tears that threaten to spill.

I explain how the talk with Hannah went: that I apologized to her, and in the end, she refused to accept it.

Fabian and I don’t blame her for not accepting my apology.

Hell, if I were her, I wouldn’t have accepted it either.

I would have laughed in my face. I would have cursed me out and called me every name in the book before initiating the rejection once again.

Fabian just listens instead of saying “I told you so,” like I expected him to.

He told me not to regret my actions five years ago when I banished Hannah, and I should have listened to him back then.

“So, are you going to give up on her and let Hannah walk away?” Fabian asks after my explanation ends.

I frown, lost in thought as I try to compose myself.

I should be here on official business, inspecting Haven Trail and talking to the wolves within.

Yet here I am, crying like a pup. “No. I will do everything I can to make it up to Hannah and win her back. I have to win her back,” I answer, turning to look at him.

“Good. Theta Aidan is planning to take us on a tour of Haven Trail’s pack lands if you are up for it.

He is waiting outside right now,” Fabian says, standing from his chair and giving me an encouraging smile.

“Now, let’s put aside winning Hannah back so that you can do your duty as the alpha king.

After you’ve done your due diligence, only then can you do what needs to be done and show Hannah you care. ”

I nod at this, standing from the chair and walking with Fabian to the closed conference room doors. Upon opening them, I find Theta Aidan leaning against the wall across from them, a bored look on his face.

“Are you okay, Your Majesty?” he asks, pushing off from the wall and bowing.

“No, but I will be,” I answer truthfully, watching a flicker of surprise flash in Theta Aidan’s eyes.

“I see,” he muses, giving me a friendly smile—the first one since finding out my identity as the alpha king and Hannah’s mate.

“Well, my alpha did say you have free rein to roam around our lands, but I thought a tour would do you good. Aileen and Serina are downstairs right now preparing the golf carts we will use to travel around most of the land,” Theta Aidan continues, motioning for us to follow him.

“Your theta is already there waiting for us.”

“Who is Serina?” I find myself asking the theta, earning a chuckle from him.

“She’s their pack’s real estate agent,” Fabian answers this time. “She is the one who sold Hannah this property after I asked her for a favor to help Hannah.”

Shocked, my steps pause as I watch Fabian scratch the back of his head. “So you were helping her this whole time?” I ask in disbelief.

Fabian nods as he looks me in the eyes. “I wasn’t about to let Hannah deal with being a rogue alone. We grew up together, and unlike you, I couldn’t turn my back on her,” Fabian states, not bothering to hide his displeasure at my actions.

Swallowing the lump in my throat, I close my eyes and take a deep breath. “Thank you for helping her,” I whisper, not sure what else to say. Opening my eyes, I notice Theta Aidan watching me, his eyes slightly narrowed as he takes in my every reaction when it comes to Hannah.

“Look,” he begins, crossing his arms over his chest as he glares at me.

“I don’t like you, but I have to respect you as the alpha king, so I will only say this once,” Theta Aidan continues, directing his words toward me.

“Hannah has been through a lot building this pack over the past five years. If you try to hurt her again, our pack will do everything we can to protect her from you.”

His words are a veiled threat, one that I know he will make come true if I try anything against Hannah.

I frown at this, doing everything I can to avoid snarling at this weak wolf.

He is part of Hannah’s pack. If I try anything against Theta Aidan, it would ruin any minuscule chance of getting her back.

“Trust me, I regret everything I did to her in the past. I was an idiot, and I plan to do everything I can, even groveling at her feet if I have to, to get Hannah to accept me as her mate again,” I state, letting my resolve and sincerity emanate from my body for this wolf to feel.

Theta Aidan takes a deep breath, inhaling my scent.

A thoughtful look fills his face, and I wait with bated breath.

“You’re telling the truth,” he whispers, nodding slowly.

“Fine. I won’t hinder your efforts to win her back, but make this chance count,” he states, uncrossing his arms.

“My threat still stands, though. If you try to hurt Hannah, we will retaliate to protect her.”

“I don’t expect any less from those under Hannah’s command,” I agree, relieved to see that I have at least won over Hannah’s theta, even if it is begrudgingly on his part.

“Good. Now, let’s get the tour done. We only have so much daylight left.”

With that, Theta Aidan continues leading Fabian and me out of the pack house. Even though my apology didn’t go as expected, I did at least take a step in the right direction toward making amends with my mate. Now all I need to do is slowly win her back.
