Hannah
Looking at the test results for the new security program, I smile and glance at Claira. The same triumphant smile is reflected back at me on her lips, and we both silently come to the same conclusion: We can release this product worldwide, and it will be a success.
“I already booked a press release for this program for tomorrow at noon,” Claira states, her eyes lighting up with excitement.
I grin, looking down at the final product and quickly make sure that everything is truly perfect. “So I’m guessing we are launching it at one in the afternoon then?” I ask, eliciting a chuckle from my friend and beta.
“That’s the plan, Hannah. I think it will be a success with both humans and supernaturals,” she answers, and I nod, accepting the verdict.
For the following two hours, we coordinate with the many departments in the building, sending out the plan for release at exactly one in the afternoon and reminding all those under us that their nondisclosure agreements still stand firm.
Anyone working for Trail Corporation will face consequences if they leak news of this new security program before the conference tomorrow.
With plans in place and security notified for the press conference, Claira and I decide to head down to the cafeteria to grab something to eat after making sure to turn on the security system in my office.
“So,” she begins as we enter the elevator, a look of pure innocence on her face. A look I know all too well comes with not-so-innocent questions. “How was sex with your ex?”
I nearly choke on the coffee I was sipping when she asks this, turning to glare at my best friend.
“What? You can’t deny it didn’t happen, Hannah. I can smell him all over you,” she states with a shit-eating grin that has me groaning in frustration.
I knew I smelled like Julian even after showering this morning—albeit with him in the shower with me.
“As mind-blowing as I remembered it to be,” I mutter, leaning against the wall of the elevator and praying it comes to a stop soon so I can end this discussion.
Claira stares at me for a moment with wide eyes before bursting out laughing. Goddess, some days I want to smack this she-wolf senseless.
“Girl, it sounds like you got dicked down properly, and now you want to ghost him,” she states, and I smile.
She isn’t far off, though. Without Julian helping me through my heat, I don’t think I would be standing here yet.
I probably would still be curled up in my bathtub, writhing in agonizing pain for another few days before it ended. Plus, the sex was amazing.
“He regrets the past now that he has finally seen the truth in my words,” I decide to say, looking at Claira, who listens intently. “The three days locked in my home with him were perfect, and I’m thinking about taking him back,” I continue, watching surprise flicker across Claira’s face.
“What would happen to Haven Trail?” she asks, her weary tone causing me to worry.
“I’m not sure yet,” I admit, looking up at the display screen showing we are only two floors away from the main floor where the cafeteria is located—a place we have set up for the public to walk in and buy a cheap meal or for workers to enjoy free food for being part of the company.
“I know that I want to remain as the alpha of Haven Trail. It’s the home I built for Saben and me.
But I also know I will have to live in the royal pack as the luna queen if I accept him back,” I add, the small ding sounding just before the elevator opens to the first floor.
Claira and I exit the elevator, and I throw away my now-empty coffee cup before the two of us walk slowly to the cafeteria, both of us deep in thought about what I just said.
Julian has been proving to me that he is willing to change to win me back, and I am willing to accept him as my mate if he continues down this path, but I also have a pack to think about.
“What if you split your time between each place?” Claira suggests as we reach the queue for the lunch buffet.
“What do you mean?” I ask, watching my friend shuffle on her feet before letting out a sigh.
“I mean, why don’t you merge the packs? Make Haven Trail a branch of the royal pack. Fabian and I would still be the respective betas, and you and Julian can rule either from the castle or from the pack house,” she explains.
I mull over her words before smiling, agreeing that this is a fair idea. It would take a bit of time to merge the two packs, but it would also allow each wolf to come and go as they please between the royal pack and Haven Trail.
“Julian will first have to clear the air with the royal pack about the rumors that surrounded me back then. If he can do that and the wolves of the royal pack sincerely apologize to me, then I would accept this plan,” I state, scooping some fried rice onto my tray and moving on to the steak cutlets.
“If Julian can’t do that, or if the rest of the royal pack doesn’t accept me, then I plan to just mate with Julian but keep our packs separate and fly back and forth between the two,” I add with a shrug, getting a chuckle from Claira.
“You are so hard-headed, Hannah, but I love it,” my friend says, and I grin at her.
“You can thank Aileen and Jiya for my shiny spine,” I reply, causing the two of us to chuckle.
With Claira’s suggestion tucked in my mind to discuss with Julian after the meeting tonight, Claira and I enjoy our lunch, our table quickly filling up with packmates and vampires from Aileen’s coven who work here, asking how I am feeling and telling me how excited they are for the new program launch tomorrow.
