“I think I understand. People make assumptions about me too.”
She stretches out her hand to touch my charm, my skin electric where she grazes me. Her blue eyes find mine, and that same electricity seems to pass between us in the air.
I point to the cave.
“Colt and I used to come here all the time as kids, pretending we were the Goonies or some such shit.”
“Did you find treasure?”
“If a stash of beer bottles counts as treasure, then yeah. You want to go in?”
“Is it haunted?”
“Probably.”
She grins. “Then yeah.”
We climb over some low rocks and into the mouth of the cave, the moon disappearing from our view, and the dark almost all-consuming.
I want to push her down onto the wet sand. Any other girl would be tugging me down there already. But Molly Stormgate seems determined to resist me.
“Did you and Colt also bring girls down here?” Molly asks, as if reading my thoughts.
“Girls?” I say innocently, like I don’t know what the fuck she’s talking about.
“Oh, come on, it’s the perfect make-out spot.”
I chuckle. “It is, is it? Got you thinking about making out with me?”
“It’s hard not to think about making out with you, River Caspian.”
“And why’s that, Molly Stormgate?”
“Oh you know why.”
“Humor me, and tell me anyway.”
“I think that would be dangerous.”
“Dangerous is the fun part,” I say, pulling her towards me and dragging my teeth down her throat.
She whimpers, her scent intensifying.
“I slept with Ford,” she blurts out, her little hands resting on my chest.
“Are you exclusive?”
“No, it was … it was a one-time thing,” she says, not sounding in the least bit convincing.
“Okay.”
“And Colt …”
“Ate you out. Yeah, I heard. So tell me – was he good?”
I nip on her earlobe.
“Yes,” she murmurs.
