Page 65 of Pack Choice
“Yes, you will be,” Silver says, frowning at Ford. A frown Ford doesn’t notice. “But I want to hear what happened now.”
“A truck crashed into us on the main city intersection. It came out of nowhere, at speed, crashing straight into the omega’s side of the car,” Colt says from the doorway capturing my brothers’ attention.
“Were you driving like a dickhead?” Axel asks with a growl.
“No, it seemed it was intentional. They intentionally hit us.”
“What was the vehicle like?”
Colt rubs at his forehead. “Their lights were off. I didn’t see them until they were right on top of us, but I think it was a Ford truck, black.”
“Did they attempt to make contact after the impact?”
Colt shakes his head. “I think they misjudged it. The impact caused them to spin off the road. And we didn’t hang around to find out more.” Colt gestures towards Ford. “Your man wanted to get Molly out of there as quickly as possible.”
“It was the right call,” Silver says.
“Why?” I say as the doctor completes my stitches and cleans up my arm. “Why would anyone do that?”
“You’re our sister, Moll,” Angel says, “hurting you is a way of hurting us.”
“It was a message?” I say. “Who from?”
The alphas all go tight-lipped, shifting uncomfortably when Bea reenters the room, Connor carrying a tray behind her.
She passes me a glass of water, giving me a quizzical look because the tension in the room is palpable. Then she hands out coffees to Ford, the doctor and Colt.
“You were in the crash too?” she asks Colt.
“I was,” he says.
“Then get Dr. Clive to check you out too.”
My oldest brother looks like he might argue but I don’t give him a chance.
“Would you mind, Dr. Clive?”
“Of course not, my dear.” With great effort, he climbs back up onto his feet. “I think you’ll be just fine, Molly, a little sore tomorrow perhaps, although if you keep your alpha here close by your side, I’m sure you’ll feel more comfortable–”
“Oh, he isn’t my …”
“I’m not her …”
The doctor smiles at us both. “My mistake. I am afraid to say I do think that cut is going to scar. I’ve tried to make it as neat as possible but you will probably have one. Betas and omegas aren’t built like the alphas.”
“It’s fine,” I say, “thank you for coming out tonight.”
As Dr. Clive crosses the lounge, heading towards Colten, I take a peek at the stitching. The wound is as long as a pencil and though he has done me a neat row of stitches, I can tell the scar will be a jagged one.
Another flaw. Another reason for a pack not to choose me.
I don’t have time to dwell on it though, nor watch the doctor examine Colt, because in the next moment the initial shock subduing the Stormgate pack subsides and Silver orders Ford into his office as Bea ushers me up the staircase.
“What about Colten?” I say.
“One of the guys will drive him home. Don’t worry about him,” she says as we reach my room. “Do you want me to stay with you tonight, sweetie?” The color still hasn’t returned to her face.
“Oh … no … no,” I say, even though being alone is the last thing I want tonight. But I know how difficult it has been for her sleep now she’s the size of a small country. She needs her alphas and her nest, not her blood-stained, rain-soaked sister-in-law who seems to have a propensity for landing herself in scrapes like this.
