Page 16 of Pack Choice
They’re more worry than they’re worth; what with their personal emergencies, their tears, their snifflings. Yeah, that and the more worrying stuff.
Life is better without one.
But this? This is different.
I blow out a puff of air and grin to myself.
I’d been contemplating tracking her down. I’d been considering how I could convince her to forget about any delusions of a pack. All that girl needs is me.
Yeah, she may be a brat, with a tongue dripping in sarcasm, but perhaps that’s why she’s gotten my blood pumping.
And her scent!
Christ.
Not mellow. Not sweet and sedate. Not meek and polite.
Nope.
All spice! Tingly on the end of my tongue. Teasing my senses. That scent could drive me to distraction.
I wonder if she tastes like that. I wonder if she’d burn my fucking tongue. Hot. Scorching. Like nothing I’ve ever come across before.
I wonder what she’d feel like to sink inside. Just as hot?
Shit!
I drag my hands down my face, then shake my head and my shoulders.
I need to hold it together.
No omega was ever won by an alpha drooling all over the fucking floor like a Neanderthal.
I need to play it cool. Show her I’m no red flag. I frown, remembering how she’d scribbled that next to my name.
No, I’m a CEO of one of the biggest companies in the city. I have responsibilities, people that mean the world to me. I take care of them. I can take care of her. Give her everything she wants. Keep her safe and protected. No need for the gorilla at her back. Not when I’m here to look after her.
Yeah, I can name several ways I’d like to take care of her.
I comb my fingers through my hair, tidying the locks I’ve just tangled, then I straighten my tie and focus back on my screen.
It’s pretty damn hopeless though. My eyes keep straying to the door. I curse my stupid decision to replace the glass of this office with the impregnable walls, because now I can’t see her. Only hear the occasional tones of her voice and catch a whiff of that scent.
Maybe I’ll have to start leaving my door ajar. Maybe I’ll have to move my assistant’s desk into my office. Where I can keep a close eye on her and what she’s doing with that ‘chaperone’.
Chaperone?!
I snort out loud at my computer screen.
I need to find a way to lose that dude.
I’ve never really liked the company of other alphas. There’s only ever been one I’d call a friend. Having another alpha breathing down my neck, standing far too close to the omega, is enough to have my stomach turning.
I open some of my correspondence. Yeah, I may be a little behind since Scottie left. But I can catch up.
I scan my eyes down the list, click on something urgent looking and read. The text blurs before my eyes, replaced by an image of the skirt the omega was wearing. Tight to her hips and emphasizing the dip of her waist.
I imagine tugging that skirt right up her legs, all the way over her backside and bending her over my desk.
