Page 86 of Pack Choice
“Are you sure you can’t be tempted by a crème brûlée? I know you omegas have sweet teeth.”
I smile at him. “Thank you but it’s been my first week at work and I’m shattered, my bed is calling to me.”
“Let me walk you to the door.” He stands and helps me out of my chair and I thank the other alphas for a lovely meal. They’re already back to their discussion on capital investments by the time I’m turning away.
“I’m sorry,” Hans says, “my pack mates aren’t always–”
“Your pack mates are lovely,” I assure him.
“They are when you get to know them. They’re just not always great socially.” Silver spots us walking to the door and pocketing his phone, stands. “I hope you’ll give us that chance and will meet with us again.”
“Really?” I say skeptically. “I don’t think I’m the omega for you.”
“I think you could be, Molly. I like you very much.”
Does he? Maybe but I’m not so convinced about his pack.
I squeeze his arm. “I phrased that incorrectly. I’m sorry but I don’t think you are the pack for me. I enjoyed meeting you though and chatting to you.”
“And if you ever need an accountant, you’ll look us up?” Hans says with disappointment.
I laugh. “That’s the thing. I’m not the type of girl who’s ever likely to need an accountant. I’m far too chaotic.”
“You’re perfect,” he says genuinely.
“Even with my funky scent?”
He closes his eyes and inhales, making Silver glare at him as he comes to a stop beside us. “Your scent is delicious.” He opens his eyes, spots Silver’s murderous look and scuttles backwards. “I hope you’ll change your mind.”
I won’t so I simply smile and thank him again for this date. Then I take Silver’s arm and let him lead me back outside.
“Wasn’t a success?” Silver asks me.
“Nope, back to the drawing board. In fact … do you know where I could find a cat?”

Molly
I’m sleepingwhen Ava drops by the next morning. She slams back the curtains and lets a load of rudely bright rays of sunshine assault my vision.
“I can’t believe you’re still in bed, Moll,” she says, bouncing down on the end of the mattress and pinching my toes.
“I’m an employee now Ava. I’ve been getting up before the cockerel crows every day this week. A girl needs to catch up on her beauty sleep.”
“You are beautiful enough. You could go days without sleep.”
I blow a tuft of hair out of my face and look up at her with what I know are puffy eyes. Then I scoot up the bed, sitting against a collection of cushions.
“Yeah, but I have another scar to add to my collection.” I point to the bandage on my arm.
Ava looks at it with sympathy. “Does it hurt?”
“No it’s fine,” I say, lifting the bandage to peer underneath. The cut has healed remarkably quickly. “I assume you’re here to quiz me? Could you not have waited a few hours?”
“You’re lucky. I hardly slept last night. I was so darn curious. You could have put a girl out of her misery and texted me. I was ready to storm over here at seven this morning.”
I groan. “What is the time?”
