“Thank you.” I lifted my shoulder to block my neck and ear. “What about the charity event?”

“Ray and Pres set a date; they’re just getting all of the details together now.”

“Mm,” I responded, taking a sip from my drink.

He laughed. “Mm? What’s that supposed to mean?”

“It doesn’t mean anything.” I shrugged.

“I don’t want that woman, Kehlani. I don’t even be around her ass. Plus, she has a husband.”

I shrugged again. “I didn’t even say anything.”

“Yeah, but you wanted to.” He grinned.

I wasn’t jealous, but I didn’t like the idea of him being around a woman as young and attractive as Ray. They’d be working closely together a lot, he was half dressed most of the time, I just didn’t care for any of it.

“Anyways.” I rolled my eyes.

The waitress had come with our appetizer, so we fed it to each other and chatted until our food came. Javyous brought up my father and I froze up a little. We hadn’t ever really had a detailed conversation about him and I was kind of sad that I hadn’t heard from him in months.

My father had been in my life from newborn to the age of ten when he’d caught a murder charge.

He killed a man that he once called his best friend for trying to touch me.

I went to my father even though the man threatened our lives and told me not to.

I was just grateful that my father believed everything that I said and protected me.

Even though his lawyer argued that he was protecting me and that I was willing to testify to it, they didn’t care.

All they cared about was the fact that my father had killed a police officer.

A man that was supposed to protect and serve that had tried to take advantage of an innocent child.

“I miss him,” I said barely above a whisper as a tear slipped from my eye. “He doesn’t know about any of the changes in my life.”

“Why haven’t you talked to him?” JV asked as he thumbed away my tears.

I shrugged. “I don’t know. Granny said some kind of raid went on and we haven’t heard from him since. We don’t even know if he’s still alive.”

The tears had turned into a faucet by now.

I always got so emotional when I talked about my dad.

Before Javyous, he was the only man to truly love me.

Pharaoh cared more about being able to say that he had me.

He didn’t do anything that was required to keep me.

My father had always told me that a man that valued me would spend the rest of his life showing me how much.

“It’s okay, baby.” Javyous turned me to face him using his index finger under my chin. “I’m going to ask Cheryl to have the shit investigated for you.”

“She can do that?” I sniffled.

“Hell, her ass been doing everything else that I needed her to do.” He laughed. “Naw, she seems to know a lot of people in a lot of places, so I doubt she would fail me now.”

Smiling, I wiped away my tears and tossed my arms tightly around his neck. Every time I thought that there was nothing else he could do to make me love him more, he proved me wrong.

“Thank you, baby.”

“No thanks necessary.” He smiled and kissed my lips. “You always in a nigga business and shit, so the least that I could do is get in yours a little and help you out.”

The two of us shared a laugh then he fed me the double chocolate brownie that I had ordered. He was drinking so he declined dessert, but that didn’t stop him from licking and sucking the excess chocolate from the brownie and the ice cream from my lips.

After dinner when we were back in the car, I pulled the final two cards of the night from my purse. I smiled as I held them in front of him.

“Date night is still going?”

“Yep, this is the final act of the night.” I grinned. “Pick.”

I was excited for these because either of them would be a win for me. The first one was a simple foot massage for his wife, but the other was more his speed. He contemplated before snatching the one on the bottom.

A mischievous smile graced his face as he read the card then eyed me.

“Ay, my man, let up the privacy window for me,” he called out to the driver.

When it was all the way up, he yanked me into his lap.

“Yo’ freaky ass.” He grinned and kissed my collarbone.

“I thought you’d choose the other one.” I playfully pouted.

“What it say?” he asked as he lifted it to read it. “I got you baby, but I need this first.”

He reached under my dress and ripped my thong.

“JV,” I screeched. “That was one of my favorite pairs.”

“I’ll buy you more, lift up.”

I lifted to allow him room to remove himself from his slacks. Once he was free, he slowly lowered me onto his pole.

“Baby,” I moaned. “What if he can see?”

“Then we need to put on a good show.” He smirked and started to move in and out of me.

I guess he was right. It was too late if the driver could see, so we may as well put on a good show.

Javyous

“So you don’t plan to see what the crazy bitch wants?” Dominique asked.

The two of us were seated in our regular section inside of DayLux and he was asking me about Zoey.

I hadn’t heard from her ass since I’d had to put her in her place back in Vegas.

It wasn’t because she didn’t want to hear from me though.

She had been blowing a nigga up so much that I had to block her from my phone and all of my social media.

Now her crazy ass was calling my cousin and me private.

“Naw, I don’t give a fuck what she wants. Shit’s a dub.”

“Yeah, I know, but Celeste talking shit now because she keep fucking calling me.” He frowned. “Bitch ain’t even my hoe, but she causing problems with my girl.”

“Your girl?” I grinned. “So, you’re finally admitting you’re in a relationship?”

“Out of everything that I’ve been on a rant about, that’s what you got out of that?”

“Yeah.” I shrugged. “That was all that you said that was relevant. I’m definitely not about to entertain Zoey’s ass.”

“You a clown.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, and your ass in love.”

“Oh mothafucka I know you ain’t talking,” he spat playfully, looking me up and down.

Laughing, I took a sip from my drink and said, “I mean I’m not the one contesting my relationship status or how I feel about my girl.”

“Fuck you, nigga, I’m not either.”

Just as I got ready to respond, my phone vibrated. Reaching into my pocket, I pulled it out and saw that it was Lani texting me.

Pharaoh told the kids that I was a hoe.

I frowned as I replied. What?

Yeah. Si just asked me what a hoe was and I asked him where he got it from and he replied that was what his father told him that I was.

Word. I’ll holla at buddy.

No, babe, I don’t want you getting involved.

Naw, his ass wanted me to get involved when he told our kid that his mother was a hoe. Yeah, I got his bitch ass, don’t sweat it. Let me handle it.

Baby…

Baby nothing. I’ll see y’all soon.

She said okay, so I pushed my phone back into my pocket.

“Fuck you pouting and shit for?”

“Fuck you, nigga, I’m a grown ass man, I don’t pout.”

“Well whatever you call it mothafucka, what’s got your face all tight and shit?”

“Kehlani’s baby daddy. He told Si that his mama was a hoe.”

“What?” Now his face mirrored mine. We didn’t do hoe ass shit, and as much dirt as we did, we didn’t make it our business to purposely disrespect women.

“Yeah, the nigga been asking for me to beat the fuck out of him, he’s about to get that shit now.”

I was mentally planning out accidentally running into him so that I could break his fucking face.

I’d been letting him slide long enough. He had been doing little shit to fuck with Lani and I had been letting her handle it because she asked me to, but no more.

I was at my wit’s end with the shit. He’d stopped sending her bread for them, stopped going half on their tuition, even when he was supposed to have them, he didn’t; they were at his parents’ crib.

That was trifling as fuck. He couldn’t be that hurt that his baby mother had moved on.

Dominique had taken another shot when my phone started to vibrate again. I fished it out of my pocket and saw that it was Jocey FaceTiming me. Quickly, I swiped to answer her call. The very first thing that I noticed was that she was crying.

I rushed to my feet and out of the lounge area so that I could hear her.

“What’s wrong, baby girl?”

“It’s Mommy,” she cried and flipped the camera. My stomach plummeted when I saw her mother and father tussling. He had Lani hemmed up to the car against her car with his hands around her neck. Si and her grandmother were trying to get her free. I didn’t even know her and Granny were together.

“Jocey, baby, where are you?”

“At Daddy’s.” She sniffled.

“Okay, baby stay on the phone with me, I’m on the way okay.”

“Okay.”

My heart broke just listening to her cry. Dominique was by my side trying to figure out what was going on, but I didn’t have time to explain. I needed to get to my family quickly.

The ride over felt like an eternity when it was only twenty minutes in reality. Tossing my phone in the backseat, I hopped out Dominique’s car before he even completely stopped.

“Grab the twins,” I tossed over my shoulder.

I took long, quick strides over to where Kehlani was in a verbal battle with her baby daddy and sent my fist crashing into the side of his face.

Not wanting to take advantage of his weak ass, I allowed him to regain his footing before I delivered another blow to the face.

It was on from there. He started to fight back, but his hits felt like pillows.

Bitch ass nigga.

Wrapping him in my arms, I lifted him, then body slammed him before placing a knee in his chest and waling on his face. I imagined his face to be one of the punching bags I used at the gym.

“Javyous! Stop!” Kehlani screamed. “You’re going to kill him, baby!”

It was then when I realized that he was no longer fighting back. He was laying there not moving at all. Nigga’s out cold .
