Chapter Twelve

K ehlani

“You two look so cute,” I gushed after putting the red bow in Jocey’s hair.

I’d just dressed them in their Burberry swim sets since they asked if I would take them down to the pool. Ms. Phyllis said she was going to meet up with her man for a little since JV didn’t have to fight today.

He had been in the room since breakfast. The twins had been trying to make their way to bother him for the past hour, but I kept them at bay, not wanting to bother him in case he was trying to rest.

“Can we get JV now, Mommy? Maybe he wants to swim too,” Si asked.

“He may be resting, baby. Let’s just?—”

“JV!” Jocey squealed and hopped up from my lap and took off in his direction followed by Messiah.

The two of them acted as if they were familiar with him and had only known him a few days.

“What’s up, baby girl? What’s good, Si?” He squatted down to be eye level with them. “Where y’all headed?”

“Mommy is going to take us to the pool,” Jocey answered, playing with the Cuban link chain that was around his neck.

“Yeah? Y’all was just gone leave me in here?” he interrogated.

“We told her let’s come get you.”

His eyes traveled to mine when they said that. They were some little snitches.

“Yeah, Lani?”

He angled his head to the side as he eyed me.

“I just thought you were resting up. You had a long night last night.”

“Facts.” He smirked with his bottom lip tucked between his teeth causing me to squeeze my thighs together. I was talking about the fight, he knew that, but he was referencing our session in the bathroom.

“Anyways, come on twins.” I stood and extended my hands to them.

“Y’all look good in your Burberry,” he complimented.

I had on a two-piece bikini while Jocey wore a one piece and Messiah donned the trunks to match us with a tank top and bucket hat.

“Do you have stuff to match us?” Jocey questioned.

“Hmm, let me go look and see what I got in here. Give me a second.” He tapped her cheek before he walked back in his room making her little cheeks flush.

Walking over, I straightened them out before double checking the portable cooler that had their snacks in it. I wasn’t going to be running back and forth to the bar for food and drinks for them. They were particular as hell anyways, so I made sure to have the stuff that they liked to snack on.

“How about this?”

When I turned in the direction of his voice, Javyous was standing there in some Burberry trunks, the matching slides, and a towel tossed over his shoulder.

“You look like me!” Si exclaimed.

“Naw, you got me beat, li’l homie.” They slapped hands as the both of them grinned.

Javyous was slowly but surely breaking me down and I didn’t know if that was a good thing.

He was fine, he had a career, all the good shit, but was this really who he was?

Before this little arrangement, he was out with multiple women doing what he wanted to, when he wanted to, where he wanted to.

How could I expect that he would give that kind of lifestyle up for me, a single mom.

Bitch you’re a fucking catch!

“Lani!” JV shouted jarring me from my thoughts.

“I—sorry, um, uh, are you guys ready?” I asked as I zipped the bag with the snacks and drinks.

“Yes!” Jocey and Si rushed to the door with their floaties and pool toys in hand.

“You okay?” Javyous eyed me from the side as we headed out of the room.

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

He didn’t look convinced at my words, but he didn’t probe either. Instead, he nodded and took my hand into his as we followed the kids to the elevator where Si was obsessively pressing the button. When it opened, JV let the three of us on first before he stepped on and hit the button for the lobby.

The elevator ride was spent with idle chit chat between the three of them. My heart swelled seeing how much they took to him, but it ached at the same time. This was a temporary situation that I had them tied into and their feelings could potentially be hurt if and when he walked away.

When the doors opened, we were met by the big, burly security guards from last night.

“Grab her,” Javyous said to me as he lifted Si into his arms. “I don’t want them to walk in case we’re ambushed by fans or security. I had them get a cabana together for us too, so we’ll have privacy.”

Nodding, I lifted my daughter into my arms and followed closely behind the security guard that was in front of me while the boys and other security guard trailed us.

The pool area was a little packed when we got out there and a few fans did actually rush in our direction, but there were additional guards posted outside that were able to keep them at bay.

Making it over to the cabana, we lowered the kids to the ground and I took a seat so that I could help them get ready to get in the water. Pulling Jocey toward me, I removed the little shades she was wearing and went to help her out of her shorts when Javyous said something.

“What you doing?”

I looked his way because I could hear the frown in his voice.

I frowned back at him. “Taking her shorts off.”

“Why though? She’s fine with them on.”

“Uh, because she’s about to swim, Javyous, what the hell?”

“We’re not alone though and hell even if we were, I still would want her to have on shorts.”

“I can’t swim in shorts, silly,” Jocey chimed in.

“Baby girl.” He crouched down just as we saw a flash from a camera.

“What the hell?” I spat and pulled my daughter and son to me.

JV stood and looked in the direction of the flash, noticing some paparazzi had come over. Sucking his teeth, he went over and closed the curtains to the cabana as far as they would go to give us more privacy.

Another thing I didn’t like was having my children exposed to the media. People were cruel and I wouldn’t be able to handle anyone saying anything to or about them.

It was too late to think about it, so I pushed the thoughts to the back of my mind and continued to get the kids ready for the pool.

I couldn’t help but gush again when they were all ready to get in.

Going to the camera app on my phone, I snapped some pictures of the twins, Javyous, and even some of all of them together.

I couldn’t help it. They may never get posted, but I would always have the memories.

“Can you take one of us all?” I asked one of the security guards.

He nodded and took my phone before I walked over to join them in the picture. The twins were in front of me and Javyous was behind me with his face buried into the crook of my neck. It was such a cute picture; I couldn’t help the cheesy grin that was plastered across my face.

“Send me that one,” Javyous requested before taking a seat in the cabana.

I did as I was told before tossing my phone and shorts in our bag and walking the kids over to the pool so that we could get in together.

The next few hours were spent with us in the pool before calling it a day. We all had tans and were exhausted. Jocey and Si had gone to lay in the cabana due to exhaustion as I got all of our stuff together.

We were now back in the room showered, fed, and in bed.

Javyous had gone down to weigh in and kick it with his people.

He offered to have Ms. Phyllis come back tonight so I could go with him, but I declined.

The water had worn me completely out. My phone started to ring just as I dozed off.

I looked over and noticed that it was Celeste, so I answered.

“Hey, bestie.”

“Bitch! The internet fucking loves y’all.”

“What are you talking about?” I frowned.

“Girl, y’all little poolside picture is doing numbers, bitch!”

I groaned, remembering that paparazzi had snapped a picture of us and had probably posted it.

“What site posted it?”

“If your husband is a website, then that one.”

“What?” I sat up a little and narrowed my eyes.

“You heard me, girl. JV was the one that posted it. It was so cute,” she gushed.

“Where did he post it?”

“Instagram.”

Quickly I pulled the app up and went to our messages so that I could get to his page. I held my breath the entire time I waited for his page to populate. When it did, I clicked on the last picture that he had posted and sure enough it was the picture that he had asked me to send him.

Me and my BurBabies. *Heart emoji*

His caption had me melting into my spot on the bed.

What the fuck? What was this man doing to me?

“He is insane,” I said lowly so she couldn’t hear the smile in my voice.

“Seems like he’s in love to me,” she countered.

“Celeste, he is not in love.”

“I don’t know.” She stretched the last word out. “Seems pretty in love to me.”

“I didn’t even know he posted this.”

“You don’t follow him?”

“No.” I eyed his page. “We don’t follow each other.”

“Girl that man follows two people, you and his stupid ass cousin,” Celeste corrected.

Clicking on his follows, I confirmed what she said. He was for sure only following me and Dominique. I didn’t have my notifications on, so I hadn’t seen him follow me nor did I get the tag for the picture. Before I exited the app, I followed him.

“Y’all were really cute. You planned that?”

“No. He just had trunks to match our stuff. Hell, I wasn’t even going to ask him to come, the twins invited him.”

“Well at least they have sense.”

“Girl, fuck you. I have sense.”

“Yep.” She snickered. “You got hella followers on Rejuvenate’s page too.”

Of course, she was still on social media being nosy.

I was too anxious to go look, so I opted to do it later. This was a lot to let register. He had over half a million likes on that picture. Javyous was really a big fucking deal, way bigger than I anticipated.

“Ugh his cousin is FaceTiming me; I’ll call you in the morning.”

“Okay.” I yawned. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

After disconnecting the call, I put my phone on the charger, snuggled up to my babies, and closed my eyes until I drifted into a much needed good night’s rest.

It seemed like the crowd had doubled from Monday night. At the first fight there was at least enough room for me to turn without touching elbows with someone else, but no such luck tonight. It seemed like all of the seats were filled with the exception of the one right beside me.

Thank God I was on the front row.

If I had been seated behind someone, I’d really feel like I was packed in a can of sardines.

Javyous was going to be the last fight of the night, which was likely why it was so packed now.

Fans were here for the others, but it was like everyone wanted to see him.

This was the main event that everyone was waiting for.

When the announcers started with the introductions, I grinned from ear to ear.

I loved to see how hyped he was before a fight.

He was so passionate about what he did and it was a big turn on.

I loved the drive and determination that he showed with this.

It made me feel better about making the choice to help him because I was passionate about my craft too, so I related.

While the announced talked, I felt someone brush against me and noticed that they stepped up beside me.

Why the hell was she so close.

I discreetly stepped over a little and she stepped with me making me turn completely in her direction and frown.

“Um, excuse me, why are you so close to me?”

“It’s not a lot of space.” She looked around. “Zoey.”

She had extended her hand to me and I left it hanging there. Was this girl serious?

“What are you doing?”

“What do you mean?” She had the nerve to look confused.

“I mean what I just said, Zoey. What the hell are you doing?”

“Supporting our man, what else?”

Chuckling, I looked toward the ring at Javyous who was engrossed in whatever his uncle was saying to him before turning my attention back to his little friend.

“Javyous didn’t invite you here, Zoey, and don’t you think it’s not only weird but inappropriate for you to be approaching me and thinking that we’re going to sit here together and cheer for him together ?”

“I mean, no.” She shrugged. “He didn’t have to invite me here. This is what we normally do. Why do you think this seat was available?”

I felt my eyes stretch at the latter half of her sentence, but quickly recovered, not wanting her to know that I was in fact curious to know why that seat was empty. No one had sat in it on Monday either.

“Don’t tell me that you really thought it was only going to be you.

” She snickered, but as funny as she was trying to be, her smile wasn’t meeting her eyes.

“Kehlani, Javyous does this. He always gets bored and finds something new and shiny to play with. Then when he realizes that that new, shiny toy isn’t going to cut it, he comes back to me and Kecia.

Why do you think the two of us have been around so long? ”

I couldn’t lie, her words were bothering me a little because why had he been messing with them the longest? I wouldn’t dare let this hoe see me sweat though, so I straightened my posture before replying.

“That may have been what he did in the past boo, but this ain’t that. I got the ring, the last name, the long-term commitment.” I grinned, flashing my ring.

“Yeah because you have the kids,” she countered, wiping the smile right off of my face.

“What?”

“You got the ring because you have kids and complete the package for him. You think we don’t know about the whole image thing his uncle had set up for him?”

“I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.”

“You do.” She chuckled.

“No, what I know is that if you don’t get the fuck from around me, I’m going to drive your nasal cavity into your brain with my fist. Cameras and fucking all bitch,” I growled.

She started to blink rapidly as she looked to see if I was serious and when she realized that I was she scurried off.

I was fuming on the inside. There was no way in hell this man had invited this hoe here and on top of that, he’d told those bitches about the arrangement.

That was going to be on his ass though because he was the one that violated, not me.
