THIRTY-SIX

My bad for not writing in ages. I must get better, but it’s been sooooo crazy busy what with the school holidays and all the kids we’ve had running around, like little vermin.

It’s been way fun though, all the same. I’ve like, had four guys on the go, too, for most of the summer, but it’s all been fun, nothing serious.

There’s only a few weeks left of the season, and Jason says we have to start packing things away for the winter.

But he also started talking about jobs for next year.

He left this sheet with Imogen, where we could all put our names down, and she made sure that hers and my name were on the top of the list. And then she sneaked into Mandy’s office where they’d been discussing who they wanted to come back, and who they didn’t, and they’d put a tick by both of our names.

I mean I’m not surprised, because we’ve both been super reliable and stuff, but it’s still cool to know for sure.

It’s really different, this time of year.

It actually rained today. I don’t think I’ve really seen rain in months, but the sky was grey and full of dark clouds, and then it just started raining, and just didn’t stop.

I didn’t have a single customer at the bar all afternoon.

I just sat there staring at the raindrops splashing onto the surface of the water. It was pretty.

Then afterwards, when the rain stopped, all the staff went out into town and we had a meal in the restaurant by the harbour.

It was all paid for by Jason. He gave a little speech thanking us for all our hard work, and saying how he was looking forward to seeing us come back next year too.

Then he looked at me and made a joke about the bars needing the winter to restock all the booze. It was sweet though.

Oh my God. I cannot believe we're going home tomorrow. I don’t mind – I could use a rest – but I’m sad for Imogen because of how Kostas broke up with her.

I mean, you could see it coming, because how’s it going to work, with her going to America for the winter, and him staying here?

And with her parents and how strict they are?

But even so she was pretty cut up about it.

It’s gonna be weird though. I’m actually gonna miss her.
