Page 15 of Breaking Sanity
To top that off, I would be behind schedule even more and Baron is probably already chomping at the bit. Hence why I am avoiding texting him. I can’t handle both him and Alley right now.
Instead, I just clench and unclench my fist on my leg. My other hand is still on her thigh and I squeeze hard enough to know she will have bruises there well into next week.
She bruises like a peach. I love it.
“Ground rules for the rest of this car trip,” I say with a calm I do not feel. “One, you will not interrupt me, EVER. Two, if I want us to take a stroll down memory lane, we will. Third, the most important, you call me what I tell you to call me. Is that understood?”
“Understood,Master,” she says sarcastically as she moves back into her own space.
You can’t strangle her.
You can’t strangle her!
You. Can’t. Strangle. Her.
“Now, what are your 5 questions,” I ask, turning off the hazards and pulling back onto the road.
“Do you work for them or are you one of them,” she asks.
“No, I don’t work for them. I am part of The Fallen with my brothers,” I answer
“Why this line of work?”
“My mom. She started training us to be killing machines for the faction of the society her husband was born into. She was so angry when she found him cheating on her with her own mother that she killed them both. Then took over but made the contracts purely for torturing, maiming, and killing women.”
“Jesus, and I thought my dad was horrid,” she says under her breath.
If you only knew, Little Devil, if you only knew.
“Next question,” I say.
“How many brothers?”
“5, including myself, but we have plenty of staff and guards. You’ll see.”
“So, you were all born into this?”
“Well, I was born into The Fallen. But my two oldest brothers were abducted from the other faction. The youngest of us was just kidnapped. My closest brother was given to my mother,” I answer as I turn down the dirt road that leads to the property. “Last question.”
“Why did you ghost then stalk me all those years ago? Why didn’t you just kill me?”
Well I didn’t expect that.
“That’s more than one question,” I state.
“Ugh, think of it as a three part question,” she bargains.
“Hmm, it’s complicated,” I answer simply. “My turn.”
“What the fuck? That’s not an answer.”
“It was an answer, and it’s the only one you’ll get. Now, lower your voice,” I warn. My hand starts to strangle the steering wheel.
“That’s a bullshit answer,” she mumbles.
I don’t think she can control her mouth sometimes, but she will have to learn quickly or this will go a lot worse for her. She’ll catch Vaughn’s attention with the size of her attitude. With Vaughn there are no three strikes, it’s either do it or face consequences. They are going to push each other, her more than him. Though if she’s not careful, he could take her and hide her away from me. Rules are rules.
I go back to our 5 questions game, so I don’t dwell on the what ifs.
