Page 18 of Bellamy
Asa had taken me hard before kicking me out of his chamber and inviting two other males in to take my place. It didn’t bother me. If he was with them, that gave me more time to myself. I’d taken a shower and crawled into my own bed.
But sleep evaded me.
I walked over to the window and peered out into the endless night. The sun never rose in the underworld. It was an eternal world of darkness and shadow, the only light coming from the dual moons and the pits of fire in the deeper levels where human souls suffered.
From my perch, I could see the path that led to the dungeon. A gut feeling told me Bellamy wasn’t having luck sleeping either. Who would? The cells were cold and musky, and his arms were chained to a damn wall.
Not that I care.
He meant nothing to me. Let him be miserable and cold. Probably hungry too.
“Goddammit,” I mumbled as I walked over to my closet and grabbed a pair of jeans and a T-shirt off the hanger. I liked to dress nice—usually a casual suit, collar unbuttoned, and black Oxfords. But sometimes you just wanted to be in a comfortable shirt and jeans that made your ass look good.
Not that I was trying to impress anyone. Definitely not a certain blond-haired someone.
Once dressed, I ran my fingers through my hair before going to the kitchen. And by “going,” I flashed there in an instant. What was the point of walking down the long, winding corridors and then down all those stairs when I could teleport?
The lights were off in the kitchen, and the cooks had retired for the night. Sven always left a platter of freshly baked sweets, though, for Asa. They sat on a platter covered with a clear dome, like the kind you’d find in a human bakery.
The son of Lucifer liked raspberry-filled donuts, and he liked them late at night when the world slept. It was something that made him seem… well, not human. But it made Asa seem less like a killing machine and more like a real person with real feelings. And very real sweet cravings.
Best not touch the donuts.
I grabbed an apple, a chunk of the bread loaf from dinner, and some cheese and wrapped it all in a napkin. I vanished from the kitchen and reappeared at the bottom of the steps in the dungeon, bypassing the long walk. It was quiet as I approached the first cell, though as I neared the door, I heard the faint jangling of a chain and a clink from the cuffs scraping the rock wall.
The door was locked, and I didn’t have the key. But things like locked doors didn’t really apply to me. They sure as hell didn’t stop me from doing what I wanted. I thought of the place I wanted to go—the other side of the door—and appeared in the middle of the cell.
“Holy fuck,” Bellamy hissed, the chains rattling as he jumped. “You can’t do that shit.”
“I can’t? Well, I just did.”
“Haven’t you ever heard of knocking?”
“Heard of it? Yes. Abide by it? No.” I stepped closer to him. “I brought you some food.”
Bellamy’s surprise at seeing me faded, and that same anger from when I’d left him earlier returned. “Not hungry.”
“Yeah? So why do I hear your stomach growling?”
“Don’t know. Maybe you should get your ears checked.”
I placed the food beside him. “Maybeyoushould stop being so damned stubborn and eat.”
“Bite me.”
“Always with that attitude,” I said, sighing. Beneath my annoyance, nerves swam in my belly. This was the first time Bellamy and I had ever been alone together. Completely alone, no one else nearby to eavesdrop or interfere.
The chain had just enough slack for him to lower his arms and grab the apple. “You couldn’t have brought me a steak or something?”
“Beggars can’t be choosers.”
“Is this even a real apple?” he asked. “The underworld has no sunlight. Hard for crops, fruit trees, and all of that to grow.”
“It’s real enough. Magic is a wondrous thing. Now eat it. Otherwise, I’ll take it back.”
Bellamy took a bite, his teeth piercing the skin of the fruit in a nice snap. Juice ran down his chin and glistened on his lips as he chewed, and my mouth watered in response. He was beautifully sinful. Forbidden. Just like the apple in the Garden of Eden. And fuck was he just as tempting.
A weaker demon would’ve succumbed.
