Story: The Love of Priest 2
"I have to help Leila with her campaign," he informed her.
"So, you're a politician now?" Britain asked as she tilted her head to the side.
Priest chuckled. "I would raise hell if that ever was the case." He definitely wasn't the typical face of a politician, but everyone who knew him personally knew he would do much more than anyone who had ever graced the office.
"That you would," she agreed. "But how exactly will you be helping her?"
Priest shrugged with a light smirk etching his face. "Just assisting. Y'know, behind the scenes."
“That means you’re cutting a check to get her what she wants,” Britain concluded, managing to put two and two together.
"If she gets what she wants, I get what I want. It’s a power move,” he explained to her. "But I will be busy this upcoming week. I just want to do my due diligence for the city. I might cause a little chaos, depending on how I feel," he chuckled with a smug expression on his face.
"I guess I'll be hanging out with Cyro this week.” Whenever things got hectic, he stuck her with Cyro just for her safety and his sanity. Britain knew the drill, and she didn't mind it. Cyro wasn't all that bad, quite honestly.
"Actually, I think you should stay out here. Kaymen could have his girl come join you, and I can convince Jazzy to come as well," Priest suggested, trying his best not to sound like he was pressuring her, but Britain could see right through him. "Maybe you could even convince your sister to come back from Baltimore," he shrugged.
Britain eyed him from top to bottom with a stale look on her face. "Kanaz, what do you have going on?" she asked in a serious tone as the server brought back their entrees.
Priest waited for the server to leave again before responding to Britain. He averted his attention to the diamond flushed bezel of his Audemars Piguet watch before shrugging once more."Brit, I can't let you in on that," he told her in hopes that she would just drop the conversation. "Just trust me."
She let out a heavy breath, indicating that she had grown flustered. She trusted Priest, but because of what happened the last time he practically begged her to trust him, she now had a bit a doubt. Last time, her father ended up injured, and she said some harsh things. What should she expect this time? "Just be safe," she sighed.
Priest lifted her hand to his lips, kissing it lightly. "I'm always good. You got my word," he asserted with a suave wink before placing his free hand over his heart.
Although she wanted to be stern with him and shoot him a cold glare, she couldn't help but smile. Priest was smooth. He knew what to say and how to say it. "Priest, I'm serious," she groaned lightly. "Stay out the media and be safe. The last thing we need is another headline. They would have a field day with that."
"The media, I can't guarantee,Gioia," he stated honestly with a shake of his head. "But just promise me you'll take me up on this little vacation with Jazzy and Jadey."
Britain side-eyed him as he smiled convincingly. "I hate that you plan things out so far ahead," she muttered with a roll of her eyes.
He stroked his beard as his arrogant smirk took over his face. "I'm always two steps ahead,Gioia. Remember that."
Chapter Five
Priest sat in the chair while his personal barber doctored up his cut and shape up. With the help of the guys, Leila had successfully secured her position as the mayor. Her campaign was sturdy and financed immensely by Priest. He managed to pull a few strings for her, which gave her a clean and easy win. Because he believed Leila was a horrible representative for their community, J'Ru wasn't much of a fan of having Leila in office, but Kaymen and Priest were able to convince him she was a perfect fit. Leila would just be the face. As far as they were concerned, what they said went.
"Did you just put a barbershop in your penthouse?" Britain asked over FaceTime.
Priest chuckled. "Nah, he makes house calls for me," he shrugged casually. Like they arranged, Britain was currently in the Hamptons with Jazzy and Jadey. Sadly, Brea couldn't make it from Baltimore on such short notice. In substitution of Brea, Jazzy brought Taylor along to enjoy some Hamptons fun as well.
Priest felt at ease knowing that both Britain and Jazzy were in the safety of the Hamptons. Plus, it was a perfect excuse to get the two more comfortable with each other.
"How fancy," Britain teased him with a smirk.
"How's it going so far?" he asked, referring to their time in the Hamptons.
Britain sighed as she turned over onto her back in the bed. "So far so good. Diane is on her way, so we're just getting ready for massages.”
"Getting massages without me now?" Priest teased her.
Britain rolled her eyes jokingly while waving him off. "It's not my fault you shipped me off."
"I didn't ship you off," Priest corrected her. "I graciously handed you a vacation without me."
"You make me sick," she mumbled and screwed her face up, causing him to laugh.
Priest adjusted the phone so his barber could properly shape his line up as he continued his conversation with her. "You and Jadey getting along?"
