Story: From the Ashes

“Why do you think that?”
“Because the box that was left on my bed had pictures of me passed out in the locker room. So, unless someone found me before Colton did and took the opportunity to snap some pics for Instagram, I’m putting my money on them being one and the same.”
Dr. Parker rubs his head. “What was in the box, Phoenix?”
“Pictures of me on the floor of the locker room, and pictures of me walking with the kings. Oh, and a note.”
He leans forward. “What did the note say?”
“Um, ‘Your boyfriends won’t keep you safe forever, Little Birdie.’”I take a deep breath. “That may have affected me just a little.”
His brows crease with worry. “Explain.”
I shrug, sighing. “I don’t know. I was like locked in my head. Floating. I was there but I wasn’t. I don’t know, it was like a weird panic attack.”
“It sounds more like it was shock. Phoenix, I really think we need to inform authorities. It’s my duty and job to make sure you are okay. And you were attacked. I don’t doubt you for a minute.”
“No. It stays in this room, Doc. I do not want you doing anything. I don’t want to piss whoever this is off even more. I will figure it out.”
Dr. Parker gets up and grabs a card off his desk. “Look, give this to your … whatever they are, and if that happens again, call me. The attack, the panic, whatever. This is my personal number. Doesn’t go to my office, goes right to me.”
I stare at him, taking the card when he hands it to me. “I don’t think this is necessary, Doc. It’s a one and done.”
“Well, just to be safe. I don’t want anything to happen to you, Phoenix,” he says softly.
I narrow my eyes. “Why do you care?”
“I just do.”

Later that evening, the guys and I are inside their dorm room, which is honestly like more of a suite. Well, maybe like a penthouse. It’s really fucking huge.
They have decided that they want me to stay a few days with them until they can figure out who is sending me the notes. Daxon hired a PI to help sort it all out. I’m honestly not holding my breath.
Mason walked in the door with new uniforms for me. And I told him no, that I would just find some used ones or something from the office. Or however I got the ones I had. He just laughed and threw them at me. He did mentioned that he was doing the girls’ a favor, and then looked down at my tits.
And sure as shit, he did. Just like with Liz’s uniforms, my tits are squeezed in and the buttons are barely holding it together.
After hanging everything up in Daxon’s closet, I head over to the kitchen island where the guys are putting in an order for some pizzas. Mason, of course, wants to get me the meat lover’s pizza. I immediately roll my eyes and try my hardest not to react to his joke.
“How you feeling, sweetheart?” Daxon comes up and runs a hand along my cheek. He leans in and softly kisses my lips.
“Um, I’m a little drained. But therapy tends to do that to me.” I jump up on to the stool as Daxon comes over and wraps his arms around me.
Mason runs a hand through his still wet hair from his shower after practice, and Colt is typing away on his laptop.
“So, we have something we want to ask you. And I have something I need to tell you.” Mason looks at me, his lips in a thin line.
I look between them. “We? As in a community question? And also, you’re scaring me. What is it?”
“Do you promise not to be mad?” Mason pleads.
“No. And I hope that wasn’t the question because I can guarantee that if you do something to piss me off, I’ll always get mad.” I watch him look at the other guys and then reach into his pocket.
Out comes my locket.
My locket. My mother’s locket.
