Story: Abandoned Oaths
“L.A.” I narrowed my eyes. “You?”
“Here.” He leaned closer. “Who’s your family?”
I retreated, pressing into Ama. “Excuse me?”
“Alessio mentioned you, but I can’t find anything about you.”
Well, that was a lie, or he hadn’t tried. My entire life had documentation online. Pictures with me and my fake parents. A graduation announcement. Several mentions in the social sections of blogs and magazines. My cover was rock solid. The Pack made sure of that. You could even call my alleged father’s office, and a receptionist would pick up.
My mom’s PR team would reply to your email letting you know she was out of the country, but would get back to you as soon as possible.
Millie Torres was just as real, if not more, as Emilia Velez.
“Did you spell Torres with two r’s?” I asked innocently.
He narrowed his eyes. “Alessio doesn’t do relationships, and he sure as hell doesn’t do them publicly. So, who are you and what are you doing with him?”
The fuck? Who was this guy? A jealous creep?
“Don’t bother lying. I know you’re up to something, and I’ll figure it out. Once I do,” he said through gritted teeth with a glare, “I’ll be the one to end you.”
He did just threaten me? Something about his eyes, a flare of something not quite sane, had my internal hackles rising.
CHAPTER 21
Emilia
I pressed further against Ama, and she finally noticed. She glanced at the guy before whispering, “You okay?”
I shifted, turning slightly away from him. “He’s making me uncomfortable.”
Hopefully, she would make him move.
Something about her changed. She straightened, lifted her chin, and looked him over with cold eyes.
“Sergio?” she spoke calmly.
“Yes, Ms. Dias?”
“Remove this man. He’s no longer welcome.” She turned her head, not giving him a second more of her attention, and smiled up at Sergio. “Please.”
He didn’t need to be told anything else. In a half second, Sergio lifted the man, shoving him toward another large guy, a security guard probably. They escorted him down the stairs and out of view.
“Thanks,” I told her, squeezing her hand. “I didn’t know who he was, and I think he was trying to threaten me.”
Her eyes widened. “No way. Don’t worry. They’ll take out the trash.”
Alessio returned a few moments later, sensing something was off the second he looked at me. He slid past the others and stood in front of us. “What’s wrong?”
His eyes locked onto where I still clung to his sister. That part I didn’t have to pretend. The man had thrown me. He sent off my internal warning bells, and his questions were beyond that of a curious friend.
“That idiot,” Ama pursed her lips, “Jackson or Jason or something. He was making Millie uneasy and even threatened her.”
“What?” he boomed and squatted to hold my knees, looking into my eyes with such concern. I almost fell into his arms just to settle him. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, he asked me all these weird questions, then said he was going to be the one to end me?” My voice cracked, revealing how shaken I was.
“That fucker.” His eyes darkened. “Ama, stay with her.”
