Story: Abandoned Oaths
He grinned. “You wouldn’t have to. I’m already hooked.”
He was serious?
“Cruz.”
His eyes dipped to my mouth, and before I could stop him, he pressed his lips against mine in a heated, but quick, kiss.
“Don’t forget about us when you’re with him, okay?”
“Us” as in me and him or “us” as in all four of them?
After taking care to cover every centimeter of my back, he poured me orange juice rather than the champagne, then disappeared, leaving me to realize I could have put on the lotion myself.
Why had he done that? I doubted anyone could see us, so it wasn’t like there was a pretense to keep up.
Did he really want something with me? More than being teammates?
No, that was my unscratched inch getting the best of me again.
But that kiss. . . . It was over really before it started. He was a flirt. A tease.
If he wanted to make it sexual, he had every opportunity to, but he remained professional. He didn’t trail his fingers over the curve of my breasts or push my bikini out of the way . . .
Shit! I was working myself up again over something that didn’t happen.
These guys were off limits.
I was here specifically for Dias, even if it was fake.
I couldn’t mess around with any of the brothers. Yeah, brothers! If I thought of them as my own, then maybe these annoying thoughts would go away.
My drink was gone. It was the only thing that pulled me out of my musings. I set the glass on the table next to me and went back to lounging.
“Millie?”
I opened my eyes and looked around, expecting Derek or Cruz to come around the corner, but the voice was too far away. I must have fallen asleep. My brain was foggy, and everything was way too bright.
“Millie!”
I stood up and looked toward the shore. Dias was standing at the back of what must have been his mansion, waving at me with a wide smile. “I thought that was you!”
I waved back, then realized I should say something. “You recognized me?”
“I’d know those legs anywhere,” he shouted back.
Legs I could easily strangle you with, sir.
He pointed. “Tell your captain I’m coming down.”
Umm, I turned around, not knowing what to do or where the captain was. I grabbed my wrap off the bed and slid it over my shoulders, leaving it open before heading toward the back.
Derek was sitting in the covered area, picking at the food.
“He saw me. He said to tell the captain he’s coming down.”
He swallowed. “Cruz saw. They’ll pull up to his dock.”
I watched as the massive boat maneuvered slowly toward the shore. Cruz appeared and hurried past us to pull out a rope. He tossed it off the side, and I moved closer to see a man on the dock tying it to a wooden post.
