Story: Abandoned Oaths
That fucker just ran away.
Where was he staying? Couldn’t I go with him?
What did I need bodyguards for anyway? I was a trained killer. If anything, I’d have to save these idiots.
I leaned against the wall and let out a sigh. If they were only there to play a role, then why were they living with me?
How was I supposed to seduce a man with four roommates? I couldn’t bring him back here, and I didn’t want to always be on his territory.
This whole situation was shit.
Someone, and I would bet all my money it wasn’t a woman, clearly hadn’t thought this through.
“Don’t be shy, nena.” Cruz shot me a bright smile. “There’s plenty if you’re hungry.”
He pointed to the open pizza boxes that looked at least one day old. A beer can pyramid stood next to them. This was my living hell.
“Don’t call me babe,” I growled. “And you will clean this place up.”
I stared them down as I carefully stepped over what I had to assume were dirty clothes because who left clean underwear in the middle of the kitchen? This was what I got for being the best at what I do? Punished to live with heathens? What had I done to deserve this? My track record was flawless. I never made a mistake.
I deserved a vacation, not babysitting duty.
“We’ll get to it.” Derek waved me off without taking his eyes off the football game on the TV.
“No, this is disgusting, and I refuse to live in a place like this.”
“Seems like a you problem,” he mumbled, as if we didn’t all have supernatural hearing.
I burned a hole into the side of his head with my mind before moving on. “We need to establish some ground rules.”
“Fuck. They sent us a diva.” Marco rolled his eyes. “Another pack princess to wait on hand and foot.”
Before the sentence was out of his mouth, my knife lodged into the wall, a few centimeters from the side of his head.
His eyes cut to slits. “You missed.”
“What the fuck!” Cruz jumped off the couch and went over to check how close I got. “Dude, I’m pretty sure it landed exactly where she wanted it to.”
I didn’t confirm. Now that I had their attention, I could move this along.
“I’m not a pack princess. You won’t have to watch out for me. My body count is higher than all of yours, combined.” I wasn’t actually sure about that, but that didn’t matter. “I don’t need or want any of you here. I can complete this mission on my own.”
“If any of that is true, then why are we here?” Marco challenged.
“I’ve been asking Rod that since we left the Alpha’s office.”
Derek’s brows rose, and Cruz sucked in a small breath. Barely noticeable to anyone not trained to look for such signs. Marco was the only one with control.
“You spoke to the Alpha about this?”
They didn’t? Who the fuck were these guys? Some thugs they found on the street?
“All of my missions come from him.”Or through him via Rod.
Derek and Cruz exchanged a quick look.
Had they even met El Lobo?
