Story: Abandoned Oaths
“Then where am I supposed to sleep?”
“Couch?” Marco suggested.
She ignored him.
“You’ll have to share with one of us.”
“I’m calling Rod.” She spun on her heel and headed toward the door.
“He can’t do anything about it.”
“You guys need your own apartment, and so do I. This isn’t going to work.”
“If that was an option, don’t you think that’s how it would be? Real estate isn’t exactly easy to find around here.”
She shook her head. “There has to be another way.”
“Look, princess,” Marco tossed the paper towel away, “we’ve each searched on our own. We were lucky to find this place in time. There were no homes we could secure without another team coming in, and no building with two units available. None of us are happy about this.”
Although Marco was certainly smiling.
“How am I supposed to do this? How can I seduce a man when I have the four of you around? I can’t even have you guys leave and take him to my bedroom.” She began pacing again.
Marco sneered. He didn’t seem to like the idea of her bringing anyone to her bed either.
Wolves were naturally possessive and territorial, but we couldn’t act on those feelings. Emilia was ours to protect and assist. That was all.
We had no claim over her.
We couldn’t get grumpy over knowing she was doing her job.
No matter how gorgeous or surprising or intriguing she was.
A female who wasn’t batting her lashes or simpering at the thought of work? It was beyond rare.
A female who could hold her own against the four of us? Impossible.
I couldn’t think of her like that. None of us could.
She was another member of our team. A colleague. We were all professionals, and we’d act like it.
“We can move the two other beds into our room and get you another.” I barely had the words out before Marco slammed his fist against the counter.
“No, we can’t. There isn’t enough room. Princess will just have to share or sleep on the floor.”
“That’s bullshit,” she snapped at him.
“We’ll probably be working in shifts, anyway. Just pick a bed, and we’ll rotate as needed,” I suggested.
It wasn’t a perfect solution, but I had no other ideas to make it work.
“Cruz and Derek have an en suite. Why don’t you take one of their beds, and that can be your bathroom? We’ll all share the one in the hall. Then you at least have some privacy.”
Marco was trying to get me to look at him, but I refused. It was the only thing I could offer her. We were used to making do with much less.
“Fine.”
I showed her to their room, and she dropped her bags at the end of the furthest bed before turning and surveying the second bed, dresser, and TV.
