We just have to convince her to let us back into her life.

Kendall

My phone rings when I’m in the shower. The hot water had been distracting me from my rushing thoughts.

I wrap myself in a towel and run to my nightstand to answer, secretly hoping it’s the guys. But they’re back in New York now, and there’s no reason for them to call me.

“Hello?” I say, not even bothering to check caller ID.

“Why didn’t you call me last night? What happened after I left?”

Crap. I forgot I was supposed to call Trudy.

“Aren’t you on a plane right now?”

“I’m at the airport. Our flight isn’t for a couple hours.”

“I’m so jealous! Promise me you’ll bring treats home.”

Trudy laughs. “I promise I will. Now stop changing the subject and tell me what happened last night.”

I bite my lip. “Well, we talked.”

“And you told them to go to hell?”

“Not exactly,” I admit. “I heard them out. Listen, Trudy, I really think they meant it when they said this time is different. They told me they love me, and it was really sweet--”

Trudy sighs. “You fell for their games again! I thought we talked about this!”

I cringe. “It’s not like that, I swear. They were so kind and genuine when they told me they loved me. I believe they meant it, Trudy. You weren’t there. There was this look in their eyes--”

“Did you sleep with them?”

“How did you--”

“Don’t be naïve, Kendall. Of course, they told you they love you and want to be with you. They wanted you to put out. And as soon as you did, they left. They’re back in New York now, you know.”

My heart breaks. Did they really go back? I know they said they were going to, but I hoped after last night, they’d change their minds and stick around.

Why would they, I think. You told them to leave.

“I kicked them out after, actually,” I say, finding my voice. “I made the decision.”

“Oh, thank goodness,” Trudy responds. “You should’ve told me that!”

“But I’m not finished with them,” I admit. “I really like them, Trudy.”

I don’t have to see her to know she’s rolling her eyes.

“You’re being ridiculous. It’s time for you to move on. We’ll find you a nice guy when I get back from Europe.”

“I don’t want another guy, I want Tag, Trace, and Tanner.”

“You need to stay away from those guys!” shouts Trudy.

“Move on, push them from your thoughts! They’re no good for you!”
