“Well, at least you’re alright. Sit down so we can get started.”

Kendall drops into her chair. The only opening is between Leonore and Jenny. On one side she has an ally, on the other an enemy. At least we get a good view of her once again. She’s situated directly across from us.

Her perky breasts are straining to escape her tight dress. Playing with her tits was one of the highlights of last night. They were heavy in my hands, and she panted as I sucked on them. I love driving a girl wild like that. There’s nothing better.

“Now that Kendall is here, we can enjoy brunch!”

Trudy beckons over a waitress and tells her to bring over the main course. Servers arrive with platters stacked high with pancakes, French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, and every other breakfast food in existence. There are only nine of us. Who does Trudy think is going to eat all this food? The guys and I can put meals away like it’s nobody’s business, but even we won’t make it through half of this.

Kendall fills her plate with an assortment of foods. She opts for pancakes over French toast and bacon over sausage. I do the same. I prefer the crunchiness of bacon and the fluffiness of pancakes.

Monica and Leonore each take a few strawberries from a fruit bowl and set them on their plates, opting out of the other foods. I’d be willing to bet every cent in my bank account that the strawberries will still be there, untouched, when the servers come to clear away our plates.

“So, Kendall,” Monica begins. I note she waits for Kendall to have a big bite of pancake in her mouth, so she can talk without interruption. “Did you know that Tanner is a CEO?”

Kendall shakes her head. Her eyes are wide and curious, probably wondering how Monica knows this information and why she’s sharing it with the entire table.

Tanner stiffens beside me. We should’ve told Monica that we all work in retail or some shit. Then she wouldn’t bother us anymore. Now that she knows we’re all big deals in New York, she ups her game, leaning forward so her small breasts look bigger than they actually are. No one falls for it. We’ve seen it all before.

Trudy and Herbie are in their own little world, feeding each other chocolate-covered strawberries. Why did they gather us all here if they were going to ignore us? If I just got married, I’d be spending every minute in bed with my new wife. There’s something that seems extra hot about newlywed sex that I wouldn’t want to miss out on.

“Did you know that Tanner’s company is about to buy Sugar Sunshine Cupcakes? Holy shit, can you believe it?”

Tanner looks about ready to walk out of the restaurant. He hates when girls get all hot and bothered over his title. It’s annoying when girls keep repeating, “CEO”, as if they know what that means. To Monica, it’s the highest title a man can have. She’s probably trying to mentally calculate Tanner’s net worth. Maybe deciding what designer shoes or handbag she’ll buy with her first allowance once they seal the deal.

Little does she know, we’ve already got our eyes locked on someone else. Monica never stood a chance in the first place, but compared to Kendall, she’s not even second string.

Kendall takes a long sip of her orange juice before saying anything to Monica. The skinny blonde is on the edge of her seat, waiting for Kendall’s response. Is she expecting jealousy or rage or something? I have no idea what Monica’s endgame is here.

“That’s really cool, Tanner,” she says, her attention fully on him. Monica’s face reddens when Kendall ignores her. “I love Sugar Sunshine Cupcakes. They have a lemon meringue one that I ate almost every day last summer.”

She blushes at her own admission. Does she think we’re going to judge her for enjoying a cupcake? Please. If anything, it makes her more attractive.

We all nod approvingly. “I’ve had that one,” I say. “It’s delicious. There’s also a strawberry shortcake that’s like the perfect dessert at a cookout.”

“I love that one!” Kendall says. Her blush softens to a dull pink. She smiles lightly, seeming more comfortable.

This is a girl who can appreciate things like cupcakes. Kendall is not some waif who pretends to love food and love cooking, but secretly starves herself.

“I really liked the strawberry shortcake cupcake,” Monica says. “It’s really good with, uh, vanilla ice cream.”

Leonore, feeling left out, chimes in.

“Those are good, but what about the…” she glances down at her phone. She’s trying to be stealthy, but it’s obvious what she’s doing. “The s’mores cupcake! It’s all I ate last summer.”

I bite back a chuckle. “The s’mores one is a new addition this year, actually. It wasn’t served last summer.”

Leonore flushes.

“Right, that’s what I meant. This summer. I’ve been eating one every day.”

The lie settles between us. Trudy and Herbie are still oblivious. Trudy opens her lips for another strawberry, and Herbie obeys. I haven’t seen her feed him anything. Their relationship seems entirely one-sided. I hope Herbie knows what he’s gotten himself into. With friends like Leonore and Monica, Trudy can’t be that good of a person.

Then again, Trudy is also friends with Kendall. That means there’s some good in her. Kendall wouldn’t hang out with someone who didn’t have a few redeeming qualities.

Monica and Leonore stew quickly next to Kendall, pushing the fruit around their plates. Sure enough, they never eat any of it.

Kendall looks up and meets our eyes. “How was your night?” she asks quietly.
