Our food comes before we have a chance to say anything more. I’m glad because I don’t have more to say, and because I’m really hungry. I thank Deena and immediately take a huge bite.

We eat our meals with little conversation. After eating her last ravioli, Lucy looks at me.

“Hey, with this whole guy thing, promise me something, Kendall.”

“Sure, what is it?”

“Be safe, okay?”

I keep the fear off my face. I haven’t told the guys that I’m not on the pill, but they’ve already exploded in me a few times. I could be pregnant even now.

Oh god. I need to tell them. Tomorrow, when I see them, I’ll talk to them about pulling out. Then maybe I’ll head to the gynecologist to get on something so we don’t need to worry.

My silence lasts a beat too long and Lucy looks worried.

“Kendall—”

“Sorry! I just got lost in thought. I promise you I’ve been safe, and I’ll continue to be safe.”

She sighs.

“Okay, good. You had me worried there for a moment.”

I feel terrible lying to Lucy when she’s been such a good friend to me, but I don’t want her to freak out when I can worry enough for both of us.

“When was the last time we went to a museum for something other than a fundraiser?”

Tanner considers my question. “Does the manor count?”

“No.”

“Then probably when we were kids.”

Kendall wants to take us to this museum today. Apparently, it would be a travesty if we left Boone without seeing it first.

“Think we can convince her to skip this thing?” Trace asks, joining Tanner and me in my room.

“I doubt it,” I say. “She seems really excited about this museum.”

Trace flops down on my bed. “I’m sure it’ll be fun and whatever, but I’d much rather stay here.”

We’re all in agreement on that. I don’t think we’ll find another empty room to enjoy at the museum we’re going to today.

“Alright, ready to go?”

Trace and Tanner nod. TheSmexyoffice is next door to the museum, so we’ll meet Kendall there.

We head downstairs, and I get directions from the woman behind the check-in counter.

“Enjoy the museum,” she tells us. “It’s our pride and joy!”

Boone folks seem to say that about everything in their town. So far Covington Manor, Mama’s Home, and museum have all been the town’s pride and joy. At least they’re passionate about the few things to do in their town.

The guys and I take in the scenery as we walk towards the museum. It’s a little on the warm side today, but not stifling.
