CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN
Leviathan
W e decided to return to Blackbyrn Manor via helicopter.
Phen and Morax were teaching us how to teleport, but with our powers so newly restored, it was safer this way.
None of us wanted Phen to leave Seraphina either.
She gave us shit for that, but we were in complete agreement that one of her mates would always be by her side.
Our plan was simple: cause a scene to draw everyone away, grab Leyja, and run like hell.
Adrenaline buzzed through my veins, setting my insides on fire. With my daemon no longer tethered to that stupid relic, my power surged through me more freely. The element of fire seemed to be the easiest one for me to summon. A blessing, and a curse, really.
I thought of all the souls lost in fires over the years. If only I had been freed sooner, I could’ve been a better firefighter, saved more people.
Ty’s strong hand grasped my thigh and squeezed. He could feel my emotions, hear my thoughts. Unlike Dev and Andras, Ty and I rarely kept our shields up against our brothers. Dev was getting better at letting us in, and Andras…well he was Andras. No one would ever fully get inside his mind.
I supposed that wasn’t entirely true. Ty and I had a bet going that someday soon, Seraphina would wiggle her cute ass right past his shields and never shut up about it.
Andras sighed. “That will only happen if I let it.”
I laughed. “Whatever you say, boss daddy.”
Ty chuckled. “I like that one.”
Dev smiled, staring out the window. I could feel his unease losing its sharp edge, and satisfaction snuggled up to my daemon. Making my brothers happy was my second favorite thing, right after making Seraphina come all over my face.
“Keep your head clear, Levi,” Andras snapped, his voice stern. He was all business, wearing a sexy-as-fuck navy suit. Probably Hugo Boss or some shit.
I opted for casual, with dark jeans and a gray T-shirt that said Fuck, Marry, Mate Me .
Seraphina laughed, and the sound of her happiness was exactly what I hoped for when I had it made.
Even in the dead of winter, the fire within kept me warm.
Typhon wore black jeans and a grungy looking sweater.
All of his clothes were ripped to shreds, and I swear he did that shit on purpose, the sexy bastard.
Devon wore black slacks and a black button-down, more formal like Andras and just as sexy. Before we left, Seraphina’s filthy thoughts had my dick twitching and I was already desperate to get back to her.
The helicopter landed at a private helipad atop an office building Andras owned in Atlanta.
We planned to fly from here, and I was eager to get into the sky.
I could feel the anxious energy of the others to use their wings once more as well.
Flying with Seraphina after our powers were unleashed was indescribable.
Phen and Mor did some kind of magic with the Delphine to sense their evil dick brother, and couldn’t place him at the manor. There was very low energy coming from the manor at all. We weren’t sure what that meant but hoped it would give us the chance to rescue Dev’s sister quickly.
Andras led us into the night sky, and we sped through the clouds. Dev was at his side, and Ty and I took up positions in the back.
When the manor came into view, I wasn’t surprised to see it looking impeccable once more.
During the ritual, the windows had all been blown to hell and there were scorch marks on the lawn from the fire thrown during the fighting.
All the evidence of that night had disappeared.
We dropped to the roof of the manor, landing near one of the turrets with a small, secret door into the Conservatory.
There was a guard posted, but Ty quickly knocked him out before he could alert anyone.
We crept through the house, killing or laying out anyone we came across.
There were less guards than we anticipated, but we also knew this place better than anyone, even more than our fathers.
As teens, we found every hidden passage, servant hallway, and secret door there was to find.
Using those now helped us avoid detection.
Dev had watched his sister as often as he could after discovering she was alive. Her rooms were on the same level as our fathers, closer to Samuel. I assumed this was for him to have regular access to her mind and keep her subdued.
We knew now her mother’s lumen blood was likely keeping her from going insane, but pulling her out of their control was going to be a hundred times harder than it was to bring Tibby back. I just hoped it wasn’t too late.
We made it to their rooms, dispatching the guards posted at her doors. Ty and I took up our positions outside the room while Dev and Andras went in. I heard Leyja’s muffled voice and a thud. The door opened, and Andras poked his head out.
“She’s knocked out. Let’s go.” He stepped aside, and we crowded into the room.
Dev held his knocked-out sister in his arms. He was frowning, a feeling of unease coming off him in waves.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, looking between Dev and Andras.
Andras shook his head. “This doesn’t feel right. It was almost too easy.”
I crossed my arms. “Maybe we are just that good? Let’s get the hell out of here before our fathers figure out we’re here.”
In the next moment, a guard came through the door. Ty was on him instantly, covering his mouth with one hand and pressing into the man’s throat with the other.
Andras walked slowly toward them, his eyes deadly calm and a painful chill coming off him in waves. His power was strongest with the element of water, ice his preferred form.
“Where is my father?” Andras spoke, his voice a sinister whisper that almost had me shivering.
Ty released the man enough for him to speak, but the guard just laughed. Ty punched him in the gut before conjuring a blade with his own power over earth. He slammed the sharp edge into the guard’s shoulder. The weak human grunted in pain.
“Tell me now or you die. Where the fuck are the Kings?” Andras snarled, his patience long gone.
The guard laughed again. “Gone.”
Ty roared. “This was a trap.”
“Where did they go?” I twisted the blade in the fucker’s arm, needing to hear him say it, even if I already knew. I punched him in the mouth, my fury growing.
He grinned, blood dripping from his mouth. “They went to take your woman.”
All the blood rushed to my stomach, and I felt like I could faint. No. Fuck no.
Dev sucked in a gasp. “There’s no way they would go to Vespertine on their own, not without—”
“Belial,” Andras spat out the name. “He’s there too. Let’s go.”
Ty pulled the blade from the guard’s shoulder and swiped it across his neck. The man dropped to the floor, dead instantly with how deep Ty cut into his flesh.
I closed my eyes and tried to sense Phen or Seraphina, but it was as if our bonds were blocked. “We need to get the fuck out of here. There’s something blocking us. I can’t reach them.”
Andras pulled out his cell and snarled in frustration. “No signal. Let’s go.”
I turned to the window and watched as Dev used his considerable control over the element of air to send a blast of wind at the glass. But it didn’t break. He cursed.
“They want to keep us busy. We’ll have to fight our way out.” Ty growled. “Levi, you and Dev go the way we came in and get his sister out of here. Once you’re in the sky, try to reach them. We will meet you at the helipad.”
I shook my head. “We shouldn’t split up.”
Andras sighed. “Ty is right. We can’t fight and protect Leyja. Go. We will see you soon.”
I hated this but nodded, accepting their plan. Dev and I moved quickly, running through the passages as fast as we could. The walls rumbled and shouting began all around us. Andras and Ty were causing as much chaos as they could so we could get out.
My body was screaming for me to help them, but I couldn’t, not yet.
The bond linking me to Seraphina was horrifically silent.
I couldn’t feel her at all. I refused to believe she was gone.
Because if she left this earthly plane, then so would I.
Not to die, no. I’d go to hell or heaven or wherever the fuck her soul rested and drag her back to this world.
Our story was just beginning, and there was no creature alive who could keep me from my mate.
