CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
Devon
T yphon pulled me away from our girl, and I didn’t stop him, only because I knew exactly what he needed from me and it was going to help her.
The taste of her decadent cunt still coated my tongue, and my dick was about half-hard again.
She was the most beautiful woman I’d ever met, and until now, I hadn’t realized how truly fucking hot it was to share her with them.
My anger and muddled mind blinded me before.
Seeing her come undone like that and hearing the filthy things Levi said while we filled her was easily one of the sexiest experiences of my life.
Going from a high like that to seeing the life leave her eyes as she beheld her father was like a suckerpunch to my chest. I wanted to burn this world to the ground if only to never see that look of devastation in her eyes again.
“I’m going to take a guess and say Samuel has the keys to the cage,” Ty whispered low enough for only me to hear. “That cross is my father’s, and I know they swap torture devices.”
I nodded. “And Laszlo will have the key to the collars. He’d want that control.”
Ty snarled at my words, and I felt the same.
“Levi can handle his father,” Ty asserted.
“I’ve got Laszlo.” I spat the words through my teeth. It would be a small pleasure at least to lift the key from the supposed most powerful Obscuritas King.
When we were younger, the four of us were constantly sneaking around and getting into trouble.
I was the smallest, not hitting my growth spurt until a few years after they did.
Since I was the most unassuming, it was always my job to steal things for us.
Car keys for joy rides, keys to the cellar for stealing the fancy booze, and once even keys to the cells.
That last one ended badly. It was after the ritual that killed Seraphina’s mother and sister.
Our fathers were in a rage that it was unsuccessful. They had power, but not what was promised. No beings came to give them what they truly wanted. Immortality. Our fathers wanted to shed their humanity completely and become daemons themselves.
Not like what we had now, with the relics and limited abilities. It would be a complete transformation. Supposedly. Why a powerful daemon would offer that to humans, I wasn’t sure.
When it didn’t go as planned, our fathers tortured countless members of The Obscuritas to find out what happened.
We snuck into the dungeon one night, curious enough to go and too stupid to realize what we would see.
The cells were completely filled with prisoners.
And even more were chained to the walls in the damp room below the cells.
Some were dead, left to rot, their decaying forms stinking up the rooms enough to make us vomit.
I had never seen a dead body before then.
Seraphina’s mother’s and sister’s bodies were gone when we woke up from the failed rituals. I never knew what happened to them.
“There’s Laszlo.” Ty’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. “I’m off to go annoy the fucker.”
I snorted a laugh as Ty set his sights on Andras’s father. He was chatting with a few members, one of them a famous rap star. Not anyone I liked; he was horrible to women and everyone knew it.
Ty barged into their little group, stumbling and slurring his words. I slipped quietly behind them, moving between the people behind Laszlo who were being drawn in by the commotion. Ty “fell” into Laszlo, and I jumped into action.
My face was equal parts annoyed and embarrassed as I grasped at Ty. “Sorry. Too many shots, I think.”
I flicked my eyes to another player on our team, James. He was Ty’s number two man, outside of the four of us. He was Ty’s gym manager and one of our most trusted recruiters of the Umbra Noctis.
After that night with all the bodies filling the dungeon, we made a pact to change our fates.
And destroy our fathers. We created the Umbra Noctis, a secret order of Obscuritas defectors.
My brows pinched at the memories. I hadn’t thought about those times in years.
When things started getting rough between my father and I, after my sister died, I distanced myself from them too.
James started to fuss with Ty, and my dramatic brother started flailing and shouting even more, bringing my mind back to the task at hand.
Laszlo’s eyes raged, staring hard at Ty. This was my moment. I slipped my arm between where Ty leaned against Laszlo and easily fingered the collar keys. Laszlo’s arms jerked up, suddenly pushing Ty away, and I jumped back, letting the key slide up my sleeve.
“Did someone say shots?” Ty barked, slurring his words for added effect. “To the bar!”
I turned away quickly to hide the laughter on my face. Ty winked at me, and we bolted for the opposite side of the room.
