“I’m going to go find Mama Astrid. It’s about the time she said she was going to start supper.”
He shuts the door behind him, and as I’m about to head down the hallway leading to the kitchen, his arm slips around my waist, pulling me back toward him. I laugh but he quickly silences it with a kiss. Moaning, I sink into him as I wrap my arms around the back of his neck. He nibbles my lip as he pulls away and I narrow my eyes at him. The jerk. He smirks, knowing full well what nibbling on my lip or ear does to me.
I grumble under my breath as he walks into the room where they must hold Church. Turning, I head into the kitchen.
Chapter 35
Reaper
IwalkintoChurchand wait for the others to settle into their seats. Once everyone is seated, I bang the gavel on the table.
Before I can say anything, Odin rasps his knuckles against the table. “I see your woman forgave your stupid ass.”
I narrow my eyes at him, but he just grins. He’s one of the very few that I let talk to me like that, especially when he’s calling me on my shit. Odin’s been like a second father for a few of us in the club.
“Yeah, she did, thank fuck.”
Turning to Devil, I give him a chin lift since I can’t lead this.
Devil rasps his knuckles against the table. “All those in favor of Lark becoming Reaper’s Old Lady?”
I grin when everyone bangs their fists on the table.
Beast gives me a chin lift when everyone calms down. “What’s her road name going to be? I’ll get her cut ordered.”
“Neith,” I reply immediately.
He frowns. “Yeah, you’re gonna have to spell that, Pres. What culture is that even from?”
All of the guys know I read a shit ton, but I didn’t think they all knew I liked to read about different cultures.
“N-e-i-t-h. She was an ancient Egyptian goddess that was associated with creation, wisdom, war, and weaving. She was a powerful warrior goddess that was often depicted with a bow and arrows. In fact, her emblem includes two crossed bows. She also looked after the dead, protecting them and ensuring their safe passage into the next world. She was sought out to offer advice or to help settle disputes. It’s said that she was a fair, wise, and just judge.”
Several eyebrows raise at that.
“Well, fuck. That definitely fits Lark to a ‘T’,” Punisher says, and everyone nods in agreement.
Beast makes a note in his notebook as he nods, and then pulls out his phone, most likely texting the lady that makes our cuts and patches.
Turning toward Python, I frown as I debate how to phrase this.
“Python, I need you to look into Zac Crawford.”
I go on and fill them in on what happened at the bar last night and then what Granny told me Zac’s been doing.
Python’s fingers are flying across his keyboard before I’m even done. He gives me a chin lift, not taking his eyes off his laptop screen. “You got it, Pres. I’ll let you know when I find out some stuff.”
Beast leans forward, his chair creaking as he does. “If he’s already doing all that, he’s at a stalker-level, Pres. Lark needs to keep her head on a swivel and to never go somewhere alone for a while,” he says before grimacing. “She’s not going to like that, but she’s our Queen now and that will bring a bit of heat and attention down on her from some people because of her tie to us. However, if this fucker thinks he can mess with our Queen,he has another thing coming. We protect our own, especially our Queen.”
My chest warms as everyone bangs the table in agreement.
“She doesn’t have to go back to work until Tuesday. I haven’t told her about what Granny said yet, but I plan to tell her tomorrow.”
“Um, Pres, I think I may have something.”
I turn toward him, and after a moment, he projects the information he found on the wall behind me.
As I read, a feeling of dread washes over me but then it’s replaced with anger.
