Five o’clock.
Fuck.
I’ve been here for probably around two hours. I scrub my hands over my face and then wince when I find the goose egg on my forehead above my left eye and I tentatively touch around it. I can feel the area that they used the glue, but I have no idea how I look. In fact, I don’t even know where my purse and phone are.
I blink when Loki holds his phone out for me and I look over at him in question.
He grimaces. “Saw you feeling around your face and I figured you’d want to see it, but just so you know, your face is pretty black and blue already.”
I make a face and he gives me another apologetic smile.
Taking his phone, I open the camera and switch it to selfie mode and groan.
“Fuck…”
He wasn’t kidding.
The area above my left eye, part of my cheek, and then the left side of my face have already started to bruise. I can only imagine them getting darker as the day goes on. Groaning again, I close my eyes and then breathe deep and slowly as my anger starts to build. I can’t wait to get my hands on this asshole. Why does he think he can control my life? I’m my own person. I decide who I want to be with. Not someone else.
“Hey, it will be okay, Lark.”
I crack my eyes open to find Loki looking down at me with concern, but I can also see the anger and dangerous glint in his eyes. Then he grins darkly.
“And besides, I have a feeling we’ll be going hunting soon for the asshole. He doesn’t get to threaten my family and get away with it.”
I return his dark grin. “Damn straight.”
Chapter 48
Lark
Anhourlater, wefinally pull up at my house and the front door opens before Devil has even put the truck in park.
Loki opens my door as I unbuckle then steadies me as I get out. Igor starts barking like crazy and the next moment, he weaves in between and around my feet and I giggle.
“Missed you, too, Igor.”
Atlas comes around the truck and picks Igor up. I scritch his head while continuing to hold onto Loki’s arm as I navigate up the sidewalk and porch, being careful of the ice.
Once inside, I breathe a sigh of relief. It’s good to be home and out of the hospital. I really want a shower, but I’m going to wait on that until Anthony’s home since I know no one will let me shower alone in case something happens.
Loki steps back and Ma gently wraps her arms around me in a hug. When she pulls back, she dabs at her eyes as Granny gives me a hug, too. Out of the corner of my eye, I spot Khloe on the couch and she gives me a little wave.
“Now,” Granny says as she pulls back, “we made you guys some breakfast, you all must be starved after last night. Coffee’s on, so grab a mug and take a seat. Lark, we’ll bring your plate and coffee to you.”
Thankfully, they are all doing their best to keep as quiet as they can. I’ve still got a bad headache, but it isn’t as bad as it was when I woke up.
I take a step toward the kitchen but then grimace. Those hard chairs are going to kill my back right now. Catching Ma’s eyes, I gesture to the living room and she nods as she makes up a plate. Turning, I cross the room and sit on the couch next to Khloe. I’m kind of surprised she’s here since things have been a little strained after the whole mess with Zac and her breaking up. Ma or Granny must have called her.
“How you doing, girl?” she asks as she shifts so that she’s facing me and her back is to the armrest.
Void hops up on the couch and sniffs my clothes before he lays down against my thigh, asking for pets. Not to be left out, Igor comes over begs to be lifted up as well. Khloe raises an eyebrow in question and at my nod, she bends down, picking Igor up. He sniffs me, probably curious about the hospital smells before he settles down against my other thigh.
I pet both of them and blow out a breath. “Feeling a little better now that the acetaminophen has kicked in. My body is stiff as fuck and my head is still killing me, but it’s better than what it was.”
She nods and then frowns. “Did they get anything on the cameras about who this guy is?”
Fuck, I hadn’t even thought to ask that yet, but then again, my head hasn’t exactly been on straight since the accident.
