Xavier
Vanilla invades my senses as I inhale Izzy’s unique scent. Two weeks? I can do that. I nod, sealing the deal with a single word.
“Deal.”
She takes a deep breath, releasing it slowly, her gaze hooded with desire.
Her plump, red lips lick softly, sending a wave of heat through my chest. But before I can react, she breaks eye contact and turns her head to watch Austin race.
I can’t help but notice how she’s as affected by me as I am by her.
I’ll make these two weeks the best of her life.
She has no idea what she’s just done. I’ve been waiting, watching, biding my time until she’s ready for me.
I’ve had my fair share of women throw themselves at me, and I should’ve said no more often.
But I’m eighteen, what do I know? The woman in my arms right now stole my heart when we were kids, and I never want it back.
She doesn’t know it, but she’s always had it.
I’ve never told her because I’ve been too scared to settle down.
My decisions in the past weren’t the best, but I needed something to numb the pain of having her so close, yet so far away, holding my heart in her small hands. Sex helped for a while, but it’s just not enough anymore. I don’t tell her that, though, she wouldn’t believe me.
The last time I was with another girl was three weeks ago.
It didn’t end well. During the heat of the moment, Izzy’s name slipped from my lips, and Lisa wasn’t happy about it.
She called me every name in the book after that, and for the first time, I realized that I need the real thing.
I need Izzy, the green-eyed, blonde-haired beauty standing in front of me, to be mine, just like I’m hers. She has no clue.
We’re standing outside the track, at the curve of turn two, watching her dad race.
This has been our spot since we were little kids, and no one ever bothers us.
Austin’s in the lead with five laps to go, his tires squealing around the corners as he drifts with perfect precision, dirt kicking up behind him.
The race is almost over, with hardly any cautions tonight.
Izzy’s back is flush against my chest, and I keep my arms wrapped around her, not willing to let her go. She surprises me by not pulling away.
A plan starts to form in my mind. Her birthday is coming up, and in less than two weeks, she’ll be eighteen. I’ll give her my undivided attention, make her not want to push me away, and finally win her over.
The feature is over, and Austin wins again.
Izzy’s body vibrates with excitement from the crowd's wild cheers, the buzz in the air making everything feel electric.
She turns to look at me over her shoulder, her green eyes and long lashes capturing my full attention as she yells over the roar of the crowd.
“He did it again! Are you coming?”
She tugs my hand, pulling me toward the winner’s circle, giving me no choice but to follow.
As we reach her dad, she lets go of my hand and runs to him, leaping into his arms. They share an excited hug, and he twirls her around like he used to when she was a little girl.
He sets her down and kisses her cheek. I’d be jealous if I didn’t know it was her dad.
“X, come on!” Izzy squeals, snapping me out of my thoughts. “It’s our turn to get our picture taken with my dad.”
I stay close, standing next to her as she lines up beside Austin.
He holds the winner’s trophy and the checkered flag in his hands.
As we pose, I can’t resist putting my hand on her tight ass and giving it a playful squeeze.
Her body shivers, and she tries to hide the blush creeping up her neck.
I slide my hand around her waist and stand closer, breathing in the vanilla scent of her hair.
We smile for the camera, and I don’t want to let go.
When the photographer finishes, Izzy pulls away from me.
“Great job tonight, Austin,” I say, extending my hand.
He grabs it and yanks me closer, giving me a rough bro hug. His voice is low enough for everyone else not to hear, but I sure as hell do.
“If you hurt her, I will kill you. Understand?”
I’m speechless for the first time since puberty, when my mom caught me with Victoria’s Secret magazines. I swallow hard and pull back, locking eyes with Austin.
“I don’t plan on it, Sir.”
He slaps my back with a satisfying thud. “Good,” he says, smirking, before walking over to Izzy.
“Ready to load up and head home?” Izzy asks Austin as he kisses her cheek.
“Don’t you want to stay for a while?” he asks her.
Izzy shakes her head, meeting my eyes. “No, I think I’m ready to go home.
” She turns to her dad and flashes him a bright smile.
“Besides, I have a lot of work to do this week to get my car ready for next weekend. I need to get the other car prepped too. I need to be rested and ready to tackle it head-on. Mia’s coming over tomorrow morning, and you know how early that girl is. ”
Austin lets out a low growl and shakes his head. “I swear she isn’t right in the head. What normal teenager shows up at someone’s house at eight o’clock in the morning?”
Izzy laughs. “She’s never been and never will be normal.”
“You’re right about that one. I’ll see you at the trailer.”
Her eyes meet mine as Austin gets into his car and drives away. There’s something flickering in her gaze, something I can’t figure out yet. She’s up to something.
She walks closer to me, biting her bottom lip, her tired eyes locking with mine.
“What are you up to tonight?” Izzy asks sweetly.
Sweet? After all these years, I know better. Izzy isn’t sweet at the end of a long night. She’s testing me, pushing to see if I’ll fail. I clear my throat, keeping my eyes fixed on hers.
“I’m going to load up and head home too. Busy days ahead the next couple of weeks.” I wink at her, then throw my arm around her shoulders, pulling her close.
As we walk back to her trailer, I notice something I never truly saw before, and it stings.
The track bunnies, as Izzy calls them, are glaring at her with disdain.
One of them approaches, not caring I’m with Izzy.
She should care. It was her I was with when I screamed Izzy’s name during sex.
She tries to shove her way between us, completely ignoring Izzy.
“Wanna come party with me?” Lisa asks, batting her fake lashes.
I shudder at the thought of being slightly attracted to her and tighten my arm around Izzy. Izzy’s body tenses under my touch, and I pull her closer, pushing Lisa away.
“No thanks. As you can see, I’m with Izzy.” I say dismissively.
That doesn’t stop Lisa. “Oh, c’mon, Xavier. You know you’ll have fun with me,” she whines, running her fake red nails up and down my other arm, making me shudder in disgust. “This stiff virgin can’t show you a good time like I can.”
Lisa smirks at Izzy, and Izzy raises an eyebrow, her face hardening. Izzy turns her head, trying to push me away, but I hold on tighter.
“Go, X. Obviously, she can show you a good time,” Izzy snaps, venom dripping from her voice.
Then she quickly masks the hurt in her eyes, turning to Lisa with fire blazing in hers.
“Good enough a time that a trip to the doctor will be in order tomorrow, since I just saw you come back from the woods with Joe.”
Izzy glares at Lisa, fury in her eyes. “Tell me, Lisa, does the ER have a room just for you and your crabs? I seriously want to know.”
Lisa huffs, her breath shallow.
“Bitch!” Lisa screams at Izzy, lunging toward her.
I step in front of Izzy, my voice deep and stern. “Watch it, Lisa.” I’ve had enough of her shit. What the hell did I ever see in her? Doesn’t she remember the last time we were together? Lisa is fucking crazy.
Izzy doesn’t back down. “I might be a bitch,” she says, her voice sharp, “but at least I don’t go around fucking every guy I can.
I might be a virgin, but I have enough respect for myself not to spread my legs for any guy who’ll give me attention.
Even the married ones.” She steps around me, her finger jabbing right in Lisa’s face.
“Xavier told you he’s good. He doesn’t want your crabs or whatever else you’re carrying.
So, I suggest you leave before you regret it. ”
Izzy’s right in Lisa’s face now, her hands shaking with adrenaline. Watching her go full cavewoman on this crazy bitch is turning me on more than I should admit. Other drivers stop what they’re doing, eyes on the scene.
Izzy’s never lost her temper at the track, but I can see it now, she’s seconds away from decking Lisa. I should step in before it gets out of hand, but I know better. If I intervene, I’ll be the one getting a bruised face. Izzy doesn’t give a damn once she reaches her breaking point.
I remember high school, when a girl tried rubbing it in Izzy’s face that she’d slept with me. Izzy exploded back then too. Once she hits a certain point, there’s no going back.
Izzy’s head snaps up at something Lisa says, and before I can stop her, her fist flies, connecting with Lisa’s nose. Lisa crumbles to the ground, holding her bloody nose, crying.
The drivers who’d stopped to watch start clapping, and Izzy looks around, her horror clear as she takes in the applause. She turns to me, tears in her eyes, breaking my heart. And I feel responsible, because I am.
“I’m sorry, X. I need to go,” Izzy says, her voice trembling.
I watch her run toward her trailer, my heart aching for her. I finally get the courage to show her how I feel, and now someone’s scared her off. I glare down at Lisa, disgust bubbling up inside me. She’s on the ground, crying, blood staining her tank top, barely covering her tits.
“Are you going to let her get away with that?” Lisa screams at me. Her voice is shrill, like nails on a chalkboard. I flinch but hold my ground.
“Yeah, I fucking am. You deserve everything you get. She isn’t a piece of shit, and she doesn’t deserve to be treated that way.
You’re a crazy bitch.” I kneel down in front of her so we’re face to face, my voice dead calm.
“If you ever come near her or this track again, you’ll regret it.
I have so much shit on you, what Izzy just did will be like child’s play compared to the wives of the drivers you fucked.
Stay. Away. From. Her.” I emphasize each word, making sure Lisa understands the weight behind them.
“Fuck you and your small dick,” Lisa growls. I stand up, towering over her, the anger simmering in my chest. I’ve never hit a girl before, but she’s pushing it.
“Say whatever you want, Lisa. Like I said, if you think what Izzy did was bad, the wives of these drivers you fucked will do worse. Take your skanky ass out of here and don’t come back.”
I spin on my heels, stalking toward Izzy’s trailer. On the way, I spot a security guard and tell him to ban Lisa from the track, explaining what happened. We’ve got pull around here, and when I say someone needs to be banned, they’re banned.
By the time I reach our trailers, Izzy and Austin have their cars loaded. Izzy’s finishing up, putting parts in the side box. She stands up and pulls her long blonde hair into a ponytail, arching her back as she stretches. Watching her, a sense of calm washes over me.
Her perfect curves stretch the fabric of the white t-shirt she’s wearing, and the sight makes my dick grow painfully hard. Stress crosses her face as she shakes her hand, and a sudden urge to soothe her overtakes me. I step closer, wrapping my arms around her, pulling her against me.
“Hey, sexy. Don’t worry about what happened. I took care of it. She won’t be bothering you or anyone else again,” I whisper in Izzy’s ear.
She doesn’t pull away, like I thought she might. Instead, she turns her head, and her lips are now inches from mine.
“What are we doing, X?” she asks, her voice heavy with worry.
“We’re two people who care about each other, seeing where this attraction goes,” I tell her, my breath mingling with hers, lips almost touching.
I’m dying to close the distance and kiss her, but I know if I do, it will only push her away. I tighten my arms around her waist, feeling her body relax against mine just slightly.
“What if this doesn’t work out?” she asks, fear ringing clear in her voice. “I’ll lose my best friend,” she whispers, turning her head away from me.
I gently push a stray piece of blonde hair from her face, bringing her gaze back to mine.
“I promise you won’t lose me. I’ve waited a long time to feel you against me, to feel your curves under my hands.
I’ve used women for sex, but that’s all it was, just sex to help dull the pain of not having you. B, you’re all I ever think about.”
My hands move softly over her flat stomach, and she shudders in my arms, her body reacting to my words. The nickname I gave her echoes in her mind, making her quiver with anticipation. She’s never understood why I call her that, and I won’t tell her until she’s ready.
Izzy turns toward me, our bodies flush together. She’s a perfect fit, her five-foot-eight frame aligning seamlessly with mine. I’m aching to close the gap between us when she wraps her arms around my neck, pulling me down as she leans in. Tugging my hair, she turns my head and whispers in my ear.
“Two weeks, X.”
Those three words sing through my mind, repeating over and over.
She pulls away, heading for the passenger side of Austin’s black Dodge Diesel, her hips swaying with each step.
I’m left speechless again, a lump forming in my throat as I watch her.
She opens the door and, before getting in, her dark lashes flutter as her hooded eyes meet mine, a playful wink following.
I smile at her, and she smiles back, sending a warm rush through me. I watch the Dodge drive away, my thoughts swirling with the weight of those three words. Two weeks. Yeah, I can wait.
