Izzy
I pull away from Xavier and open my bedroom door. Nolan is standing on the other side of the door, a smirk on his face and I give him a small smile as I make my way down the stairs. I find my phone on the coffee table and pick it up.
I have tons of texts and missed calls. I scroll through my messages first, seeing if it’s anyone important. Most are from Mia and Ashley, the others are from friends of my dad asking how he is doing.
I send a mass text to everyone telling them the same thing, he is in the hospital and has a long recovery.
After what Xavier told me earlier, I don’t know who to trust so I leave out the part of it not being an accident.
I haven’t been around these people for a long time, so I don’t know them as well as I used to.
I spot the card Xavier gave me earlier on the coffee table next to where my phone was. I pick it up and turn it over in my hand, contemplating if I should call Officer Iverson now. I check the time and it’s eleven o’clock in the morning.
Xavier comes up behind me. My senses pick up where he is before I see him. We’ve always had that type of relationship. I always know where he is before I see him, he’s the same way with me. He wraps his arms around my waist and rests his head on my shoulder.
“Izzy, you don’t have to talk to him right now if you don’t want to." His hot breath fans across my ear. Goosebumps break out across my skin from his deep voice. He has always had that effect on me.
“I know,” I answer softly. “But I need to get this over with. I’ll call him, see what he wants, and then go see my dad."
Xavier kisses my shoulder. “OK, I’ll go get us some coffee while you call him."
He lets me go and I immediately miss his warmth around me. I take a deep breath and dial the number on the card. I tap my foot as the phone rings on the other end. Officer Iverson’s voicemail picks up, telling me to leave a message.
“This is Izabella Jones, calling you about Austin Jones’s accident. You can call me back at five, five, five, zero, two, four, four." I hang up, sit on the couch, and toss my phone on the coffee table. My anxiety is rising, so I stand back up and pace the living room floor.
Xavier comes out of the kitchen carrying two cups of coffee and hands me one. I stop pacing and take a sip, the bittersweet taste coats my mouth and tongue relaxing me a little.
Nolan comes out of the kitchen with his cup of coffee, his shaggy brown hair is disheveled, his brown eyes carry a hint of mischief.
“Sleep well?" He asks, giving me a wink. I swallow my coffee hard and start to choke. Xavier punches Nolan in the arm.
“Fucker. I will take back what I said earlier and fucking kill you if you don’t shut it."
Nolan laughs as he rubs his arm. “Always threatening to kill me. You have issues, bro."
“If you don’t shut it, you’ll have issues, bro," Xavier growls at him.
I finally quit coughing and watch their banter.
If I didn’t know these two most of my life, I would think Xavier was being serious.
I see the laughter in their eyes as they tease each other.
Nolan turns and gives me another wink, it finally dawns on me what he is talking about and my face turns red.
“Oh my god." I groan, covering my face with my hands.
“What?" Nolan asks innocently, batting his eyelashes like a girl.
“You are such an ass." I laugh. I reach for a racing magazine on the stand next to my dad’s chair and throw it at him. It beams him in the forehead and lands on the floor with a thud.
“Good shot Izzy. Still have a nice arm.” Xavier appraises.
Nolan is rubbing his forehead, still laughing. “Nice shot Izzy. I couldn’t help myself. You looked like you needed a little reprieve from the seriousness, even just for a minute."
I set my cup down and turn to Nolan, really seeing this man who’s been a big part of my and Xavier’s lives.
“Thanks, Nolan. I do feel a little better." I turn to Xavier, “I’m going to take a shower then we can go to the hospital."
I walk up the stairs, into my room. I get clean clothes out of my bag and the rumpled sheets make me smile.
I walk into the bathroom across the hall from my room and shut and lock the door.
I need just a few minutes to myself to figure out what the hell I’m doing.
I start the shower, letting the steam fill the bathroom as I undress.
Thinking back to this morning, a smile forms on my face. Waking up with Xavier next to me felt so right, so good. His warm, hard body pressed against mine. His strong hands holding me tight, making me safe, sends my heart soaring with the love I’ve always had for him.
We had the talk we should have had a long time ago. We missed a lot over the last five years and now regret fills my heart from being stubborn and not talking to him.
I left out a part of the conversation when that bitch came to see me the next day which made my decision to leave. She whispered it so low I don’t think Mia heard. I had to leave. I had to leave him behind and try to move on.
I told no one what she said, so when I came back last night and saw Xavier waiting for me at the airport, I was shocked.
My heart hurt all over again when I saw the lost look in his eyes as he approached me. His messy black hair and strong sexy body sent lust rolling through mine and I really missed him. I missed his smell, his eyes, his voice.
I step into the shower and as I duck my head under the water, I hear the jiggle of the door handle and the popping of the cheap lock.
A smile spreads across my face when the door opens and closes.
Xavier’s smell fills my nose and want roars through my veins when I hear the rustling of his jeans as they drop to the floor.
My heartbeat accelerates when the shower curtain moves and Xavier’s muscular body steps into my view. I lick my lips as my eyes roam over his body. I watch him, watching me, his tribal tattoos covering his shoulders and stopping at the middle of his arms catch my attention.
I run my fingers over them and he shudders under my contact.
His gaze not leaving my body as I study the intricate details.
They’re both matching red and blue flames making his muscles more defined.
He grabs my wandering hands and brings them to his lips, kissing them softly, a stark contrast to the heat in his eyes.
I look into his eyes and he cups the back of my head, tugging my hair back a little.
My body heats up in flames, wanting him more than I ever did before when he leans in and kisses me hard.
He closes the distance between us, pressing our bodies together, making me ache with need.
The steam from the shower floats around us as he picks me up and turns us, so my back is against the cool tile wall.
I wrap my legs around his waist and break our kiss. I let out a moan as his lips move to my neck, nipping and biting. His breathing is ragged against my skin. I watch him as he swallows hard.
“Are you sure?" His husky voice whispering across my lips.
“Yes, Xavier I’m more than sure. I regret not talking to you and missing you every day I was gone. You’re all I ever thought about and there has been no one since you."
A low growl escapes his throat as he kisses me again and pushes forward. I feel him all around me, invading my senses. He breaks the kiss, breathing hard.
“B, you feel so good,” he whispers in my ear.
“Oh God, Xavier!" I scream. My build-up starting in my toes working its way up through my legs and into my lower stomach. I’m holding onto his strong shoulders, my nails digging into his skin as the water beats down around us making our bodies slick.
His breathing is ragged as his hot mouth nips at my neck behind my ear, sending me closer to the edge.
Xavier releases a deep groan from the back of his throat and I explode into a million pieces. He doesn’t let up, moving my hips to the rhythm of his. I release a groan at the onslaught of his lips on my neck sucking gently.
Pulling his head back, Xavier’s eyes are dark with desire. “Come for me again, B. Let me feel you." My body responds, fire flowing through my veins as I come again.
His piercing gaze is hooded with desire. Desire for me.
Xavier lets out a deep groan from the back of his throat as he finds his release. He slows down his pace, shuddering, and brings his lips to mine, punishing me with a kiss I’ll never forget.
Xavier sets me down gently and washes me.
The intimacy from washing each other makes my heart soar with happiness.
No words are needed as we finish our shower together.
The light in his mesmerizing gaze, the deep smile on his face, is all I ever wanted to see.
It was missing when I saw him last night, but it’s here now and I plan to keep it there forever.
We get dried off, dressed and head downstairs. My phone lights up from the coffee table and I reach over to answer it. The number isn’t stored in my phone and I hesitate.
Xavier sees the look on my face and takes my phone from my hands and swipes the button to accept the call.
“Yeah,” he barks into the phone. He pauses as he listens to the caller on the other line.
His eyes fly up and look at me. The sparkle that was there a few minutes ago, is gone, they turn hard.
His teeth are grinding together. “Who the fuck is this!
" He roars into my phone, cutting his eyes towards Nolan. I flinch at his hard, angry voice.
“You better fucking answer me mother fucker before I track you down and you won’t like what I have planned." I can hear a faint laugh on the other end and Xavier’s face grows pale as his eyes snap back to mine. He throws the phone down on the coffee table.
“X, who was it?" I ask quietly. Anger and rage are radiating from his body, his hands are shaking as he runs them through his black hair and grabs the back of his neck.
“FUCK!" He shouts. Nolan cautiously approaches Xavier.
“Dude, what the fuck was that?" He asks.
Xavier doesn’t answer him, his eyes are wild with rage. I know I’m the only one who can break through to him, it’s happened before. I slowly approach him, my hands up in front of me.
“Xavier,” I whisper.
He doesn’t hear me, and I know if I don’t reach him soon, his rage will take over and it will be a while before he comes back. I reach out and stand in front of him. His wild eyes look right through me as I gently touch his cheek.
“Xavier, look at me,” I demand, keeping my eyes on him. He finally looks at me, his eyes deadly.
“Stay back Izzy." He warns.
I shake my head, not breaking contact. “No. I’m not afraid of you." It’s true. No matter how far gone his rage takes him, Xavier would never hurt me, so I keep talking.
“Xavier, talk to me. Tell me what just happened. We have to get through this together." I bring my other hand up and grab his face, forcing him to look me in the eyes. “It’s me, Izzy, I’m here. Come back to me and tell me what the fuck is going on.”
I finally break through to him. “Izzy,” he whispers. His arms come up around me, pulling me against him. I wrap my arms around his waist.
“X, what happened?"
He takes a deep breath, his heart beating fast against his chest. “That call,” he stops and starts again, “Whoever was on the other end threatened you."
My jaw drops, and my heart sinks to my toes. “What?"
Xavier swallows hard. “They were breathing heavily on the other end, then finally said, ‘I hope you enjoyed this morning with her, it’s the last you will have.’ Then they laughed and hung up." Xavier’s voice is trembling with rage.
“We need to call the cops,” I say pulling away from him and reaching for my phone. I dial Officer Iverson again. He doesn’t answer, and I leave another voicemail, this time more annoyed.
“Izzy let’s go see your dad, then go to the racetrack,” Xavier says he’s back in control.
“I’ll head out there now,” Nolan says. He was so quiet through all of that, I forgot he was here. He’s just as pissed off as Xavier.
“Thanks, Nolan."
“No problem, Izz. I’m here for both of you." He looks Xavier in the eyes, “I’ll go and see what I can find out. I’ll meet you there?"
“Yeah, bro. Thanks," Xavier answers.
We all put our shoes on and head out the door. I lock up my house and get into Xavier’s car. We drive off to see my dad at the hospital, while Nolan heads to the racetrack.
