Kendra

Dad holds his arm out for me, and I take it.

My dress is cream. The skirt is fluffy with tulle. And colorful flowers are embroidered from the bodice to the hem.

It’s perfect.

Dad lets out a breath. “Ready?”

I nod. “Ready.”

Ashley gives me a big smile, then she starts to walk.

We follow her down around the side of Luther’s house.

Our house.

The leaves have changed color.

The bright yellows and oranges and reds stand out against the bright blue sky.

And it’s perfect.

When we reach the corner of the house, we turn, and it doesn’t feel real.

The white chairs sit in neat rows, and Ashley starts down the aisle ahead of us, tossing flower petals with each step.

Buddy darts across the yard, a black bow tie askew on his neck as he snaps a mouthful of petals out of the air.

It’s so perfect.

Dad chuckles beside me, then reaches up with his free hand to wipe at his eyes.

I think Buddy moving over here was even harder for him to deal with than me moving out.

Buddy lets out a shout, then runs back to his house.

A tiny home.

That my dad built.

Just for the fox.

And just like the yard, it’s decorated with string lights and bouquets of flowers.

It might not be a zoo, but it’s not the wild.

And then we’re there.

Standing before Luther.

And he’s perfect.

He holds his hand out for me.

And my fingers don’t tremble as I take it.

Because this is exactly where I’m meant to be.

Because we’re perfect.
