Page 114 of His Retribution
I start doing a little dance, take a page from my heart's book, and pump my fists in the air as I shimmy in circles. "Who's not dead? This girl! This girl right here!"
They laugh, their booming baritones echo in the dining room and when I finally stop dancing, I throw myself at Havok and wrap my arms around him, hold him tight and pepper his face with so many kisses.
"I'm not dead, lovey."
"No." He smiles as I kiss away his tears. "No, my angel, you are not dead and though I am elated, we should still exercise caution. He has not come for you, did not take you from me but that does not mean he won't try."
I nod and keep kissing him. "I know. But right now, right now I'm alive and that's because of you. You kept me safe and I know you always will."
With a smile hotter than the surface of the sun, one packed with so much love and pride, Havok kisses me hard. "You bet your ass I will." Then he lowers his voice, and growls against my lips, "Now show me your panties."
The others groan but I just laugh.
It may be temporary, a minor victory in a much bigger war, but I will take it and I will keep fighting because there is no way on Earth or in hell I will give up my mate, my heart, or my family just because some whacked out vampire king has other plans.
Nope, I'm gonna fight until there isn't any more reason to do it.
This fae has no intention of becoming extinct.
Fuck that in the ass with a two by four.
Hot Nerds
October 13th. First Ever 27th Birthday.
"Havok. Lovey, listen to this." I shift around on our bed, sittingcriss-cross applesauce. "It says here that a fae's mate has the potential to take on their gifts after the bond is solidified. I guess Ellida wasn't able to conjure or control the elements until she mated with Tolan, just as he didn't possess the gift of creation. Apparently that's why they were such a good match and one hell of a power couple. Between the two of them they had all the gifts fae could possess."
Havok grunts a couple of times then gives me a halfhearted, "Interesting."
"I wonder if that's why you can tolerate the sun now? Maybe since I sort of have the gift of light it means you do too? Like, not the ability to create it but maybe just now you can endure it. Does that make sense?"
He grunts again and I frown. "Are you listening to me? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I feel like this is sort of important..." My words die on my tongue as I look up from the book I've been devouring to see my loves ridiculously muscled back and the sweatpants he's wearing slipping further down his narrow hips.
Havok has been working on the steel shutters all morning, trying to figure out what went wrong yesterday. He wanted to do it last night after we left the main house but I was so fucking happy I didn't die that I basically mauled him the second we got home, then proceeded to keep him occupied for hours with endless orgasms. We fell asleep around three, I woke up at five with my thigh over Havok's hip and his dick sliding between my legs, and after some amazing spooning sex, we went back to sleep until eight fifteen, fucked in the shower and had breakfast—real breakfast at the normal time—with our family. Then we came back under the guise of him working on the windows but took a quick detour so he could bend me over the dresser and we both watched in the mirror as Havok pounded me into oblivion.
So saying either one of us have been doing our current activities all morning isn't exactly true, but after the dresser sex we've been diligently working.
And looking at my mate right now, his fair skin shiny from the way the sun hits it just right, the way the muscles in his back move and shift while he unscrews the panel in front of the window... yeah, I might just end up sidetracked again.
"Fuck!" Havok grunts as he pulls his hand back quickly, his thumb immediately between his lips. "Piece of shit, son of a bitch automatic asswipe."
I giggle then snort unattractively as Havok slowly turns from the window.
"You find this amusing?" He holds out his thumb with a teeny little cut on it. "I could have been killed!"
Now I'm laughing so hard I can't do anything but shake my head.
"No?" He play-scowls harder. "You do not think an injury such as this could be fatal? Think my distress is overreacting?"
"Yes, you big baby!"
Havok pouts, and sticks out that beautiful bottom lip. "You are supposed to fall all over me, coddle me, care for me, kiss my pain away when I injure myself."
"Oh really?" I lift a brow. "Is that what I'm supposed to do?"
He nods and gives me puppy dog eyes.
I sigh on a laugh. "Ok. Come show me where it hurts."
