She’d blocked me from her mind because she didn’t trust me.
Fine.
Enough brooding.
Except I couldn’t seem to stop brooding because it had really fucking hurt to be cut off from her like that. Then she’d very clearly believed I’d enchanted her dress, and had continued to assume that even after I denied my involvement.
Obviously, I’d pushed her too far with the sensual invitations, but that…
That’s who I am, I thought.
And if Cami didn’t want that—didn’tacceptme—then I… I didn’t know how to proceed.
“Melek?” Cami prompted, drawing my gaze to hers. I’d apparently been staring at the ornate rug beneath my feet, which was a strange thing to do with a nearly naked Cami standing in the bathroom doorway.
She’d moved completely into view, her head no longer hanging out to the side, but upright as she stood there in just a towel.
The plush fabric wrapped around her in a fluffy white dress that ended well below her knees.
My lips twitched at the sight. She’d chosen the towel Ty typically used for himself, and he stood well over a foot taller than her five-foot-four frame. Thus, the material resembled a blanket more than a towel.
When she cleared her throat, my amusement waned. She likely assumed I’d been checking her out. Which I probably would have done if I were in any other state of mind.
But I was lost in this cloud of uncertainty that hung over me like a dark fog.
“I ordered some food for you,” I told her. “I also wasn’t sure what you would want to wear, or if you would be okay with me going through your things in the other room, so I… haven’t touched anything yet. If you tell me what you need, I can grab it. Or you can grab it. Or…”
I trailed off, feeling somewhat like an idiot rambling on about nothing.
This isn’t me.
Then stop overthinking everything and be who you are,Ty growled into my mind, obviously hearing my flustered thoughts. If she rejects you, then she isn’t good enough for you.
I don’t think that’s how it works,I told him.Typically one rejects another for not meeting their standards.
That won’t be the case with her,he replied. If she can’t see how amazing you are, that’s on her, not you.
The classic “It’s not you, it’s me” saying, hmm?Any other day, I might have laughed. However, I wasn’t feeling all that humorous at the moment.
“Melek,” Cami repeated, this time from a few feet away.
I’d dropped my gaze again on impulse. Looking at herhurt. And I really didn’t want to give her any other reason to question my loyalty to her.
Yes, I’d played games. I’d woven everyone together in this circle, knowing it was how we would all thrive. If she hated me for that, so be it. I couldn’t apologize. Because I knew it was right.
She might be Vivaxia’s granddaughter—a reveal I questioned, as I didn’t trust a single word out of that bitch’s mouth. And she might be a siphon meant to bring down our realm. But I saw something deep in her soul that I couldn’t ignore.
It’d been there from the very first moment in the library.
A knowledge I couldn’t quite define.
I just… knew.
She was mine.Ours. The key to uniting the Hell Fae Realm once and for all.
Camillia De la Croix was a goddess in disguise, a queen destined to rule. I just had to help her see it. I’d had to help Ty see it, too.
Now he did.
