As he made his way downstairs to the kitchen, he was surprised by the smell of bacon cooking. When he walked into the room, he found Lisa, Jeff, and Parson cooking. Carter sat at the table sipping coffee, giving him a huge grin as he walked in.
"What do we have here?" Beau asked.
Lisa smiled. "We thought you might be hungry. We were."
"I see why you're adopting these two." Carter grinned.
Beau laughed as he hugged Jeff. "I'm adopting them for much more than their cooking skills."
"I don't know, we work pretty well as a team in the kitchen. I might have to steal them from you." Parson winked.
Beau turned, pulling Parson into his arms. "No go. You'll just have to move in with me and share my kids, and my kitchen." He brushed a kiss over Parson's lips, ignoring the surprised look he got from what he said.
"Careful what you wish for," Parson whispered.
"Oh, I have much bigger wishes than that." Beau released him. "But first, I must have coffee. I can't conquer the world without my coffee."
"He growls before he has coffee." Jeff giggled.
Beau laughed.
Carter nodded. "He does. I've heard him. He's like a big grumpy bear."
"He snores like a big bear too." Lisa smiled as she forked the bacon from the pan.
"I do not." Beau laughed.
"Do too." Parson shrugged. "Sorry, but it's the truth."
"Well, shoot." Beau sat down with his coffee.
"How's Bry?" Carter asked, his expression turning serious.
"He'll be okay. He's going to hurt for a few weeks, and won't be doing a lot more than lying around being grumpy, but he'll live," Beau told him. He didn't want to say too much with Jeff around. Lisa could handle some of the details, but Jeff was just too young. "Becca will nurse him back to health."
"Man, that was one call I hated making last night. I called her right after you, and thought she was going to lose it." Carter sighed.
Parson set a plate down in front of Beau, then one in front of Carter. "I imagine it's not easy sitting around hoping things go smoothly, but always worried you're going to get that call."
Beau grabbed Parson's wrist before he could walk away. "I'm the doctor. Only the doctor. Remember that."
Parson bent down and kissed him. "As long as you remember that."
Carter raised a brow, but Beau shook his head. It wasn't something to talk about right now.
"I'm mad Faith left without saying goodbye." Lisa sat down with her own plate.
"It was late, you were asleep, and she was exhausted. That girl worked so hard last night. She never hesitated for a moment. She just jumped right in, almost expecting things before I said them."
"She's studied hard, watched everything you show her." Carter grinned.
"She deserves half the credit last night. I couldn't have done it alone." Beau cut into his egg. "Anyway, we'll have her over soon, or you can go over there. We'll see what happens." He turned to Jeff. "What did you think of the game room downstairs?"
Jeff's eyes brightened. "It was amazing. They have everything down there. Every game, every system, every movie. I could live down there."
Carter laughed. "We'll have to get you set up with Kasey and Dyson when they are free and let you play with them. Those two are big time gamers."
"When did Kasey leave?" Beau asked.
