"A nanny? Like a girl?" Jeff asked.
Lisa moved even closer to Jeff, wrapping an arm around him protectively.
"A man actually. He's really nice. I think you're going to like him. His name is Warren. He's just graduated from college. He wants to be a chef and a writer, so he'll cook you amazing things. Which is good, since I can cook, but not well." Beau smiled back at Parson, gesturing for him to join them.
He walked closer, linking his hand to Beau's.
"Warren will visit tonight to meet you guys, but he won't move in until tomorrow. I wish I could be with you guys all the time, but I have to work. Hopefully, you guys will like him. If there are any problems, you let me know and we'll figure it out," Beau told the kids.
"Can we see inside?" Jeff asked.
Beau laughed. "Of course. Now I've picked out bedrooms for you, but you can trade if you don't like the ones I picked. There are five bedrooms. I put you two in the ones closest to me, then Warren will take one of the others." Beau pulled out his keys and walked up the front steps to a large porch.
Parson loved how excited the kids were. He could see they were nervous, but that was to be expected. He released Beau's hand so he could unlock the door, once it was open, Beau gestured the kids inside, then let Parson follow before coming inside himself.
"Wow." Jeff looked at the entryway. "This room is almost bigger than my last house."
Lisa nudged her brother.
"It's okay," Parson told Lisa. "I'm sure most people are impressed when they see Beau's home. It will take some getting used to, but I think you guys will love it here."
"What do you want to see first? Your bedrooms?" Beau asked.
"Yeah!" Jeff turned and looked up at the large staircase. "Are they up there?"
"They are." Beau waved his hand. "My room is at the very end of the hall. Yours are the ones right before it. Go on, we'll meet you up there."
Parson watched the kids race up the steps toward their rooms. "It's good to see them smile."
"It is. Maybe later I can make you smile?" Beau stole a quick kiss.
"Maybe." Parson winked. "I would like to talk later if you have some time."
"Sure, what's up?" Beau started up the stairs.
"Nothing I want to talk about with the kids around. It will wait." It wasn't like talking about it now would change what had happened. As much as he wanted to know if Beau was responsible, there was a part of him that didn't want to find out. He wasn't sure he could continue his relationship with Beau if he'd attacked Albert.
"Okay. We'll get them settled and talk. Do you have to go back to work today?"
"For a few hours. That will give you and the kids time to adjust and for them to meet Warren. I'll come back tonight."
Beau nodded, but focused on the kids as they stood in the doorway to one of the rooms.
Parson's chest tightened, seeing a carved wood nameplate with Jeff's name on the door. It was a little simple thing, but to the kids, it would mean so much.
"This is mine?"
"If you are okay with it. We can always trade if you and your sister want to. I figured you'd want a view of the horses outside your window." Beau walked into the room.
"You have horses?" Lisa ran to the window.
"No, but my neighbors do. You can see them across the yard." Beau pointed.
"Is that your yard?" Jeff stared at the large grassy backyard below his window.
"No," Beau told them, then gripped each child gently on the shoulder. "It's ours."
Parson couldn't smile any larger than he was. Beau was doing everything right.
