MAZZIER
I felt like I hadn’t closed my eyes at all because I was up all damn night with Gauze.
Once the movers moved everything in and finished up, I made sure Mama Dolly was good and made my way to the sofa on the first floor.
Gayze’s bed wasn’t up, so she was sleeping on the sofa or a blowup mattress until I put it together.
Right when. I felt myself falling asleep, I heard her footsteps walking into the living room.
When I looked up she was smiling at me. It wasn’t a normal smile either, it was one of those demon time smiles.
Long story short, I haven’t gotten a wink of fucking sleep and neither had she, but now she was up rushing around the room to get ready for sleep.
“You fuck me into oblivion then leave me on this sagging ass air mattress?” I asked not even bothering to lift my head. I was tired as fuck.
She giggled. “You can put some air in it and no I didn’t.” She sounded bashful which made me lift my head and look at her.
When I laid eyes on her, I realized that maybe it wasn’t her that kept us going until the wee hours of the morning. The way her scrubs fit had a nigga in trance. “They ain’t got no bigger size? You walking around that fucking hospital thicker than a motherfucker.”
Again she laughed. “Yes, but these aren’t that tight and you know it. I don’t even get why you insist on being you.”
“That’s all I can be, baby. What time do you get off today?”
“It depends. I have a few call off today and a budget meeting.” She shrugged her shoulders while securing her earrings in her ears. “What about you? Will you be here tonight?”
“Can’t, I have Mel. But I’d like for you to have your ass in my bed whatever time you get off.”
She smiled. “And what about my bed?”
“What about it? Imma have it together before you get home, but yeen sl?—”
“Mazzier, the reason I moved my grandmother here was so she wouldn’t be alone so much.”
I laughed at her obliviousness. “Baby girl, Dolly has never been alone. Yeen noticed Mr. Jameson helping her move in? Shit, he’s just as old as her but he tried to carry a few boxes for her.” I laughed.
“Yeah but that’s her fr… Ew! No, she’s too old for?—”
“That’s her business and yeen finna say what she’s too old for.” I laughed my ass off. It made me think about when I first put it together, I was around the wrong motherfuckers though. Kasair was ready to go beat the old man’s ass while Quari and I couldn’t help but giggle at it.
“What do you mean she?—”
“Gauze. You’ll meet me in my house tonight?” I asked.
She mugged me momentarily. “Fine, but I’m not cooking a damn thing.”
“Did I ask you to?” I stood and got up, walking into the washroom connected to her bedroom.
I went into the pantry that I knew she put together last night and grabbed a washcloth and toothbrush.
Gauze was a neat freak like that, she made sure everything was in its specific place and shit.
I stood in the mirror brushing my teeth, when I heard a phone ringing in the other room.
“Your phone is ringing." She appeared in the doorway holding my phone before she sat it down on the counter.
“Who is it?” I asked, while still brushing my teeth.
“I don’t know, I’m not looking at your phone.” She responded by giving me the stank face.
“And why the fuck not? Imma look at ya shit.” I mugged her momentarily. “Now answer the phone, Gayze.
She looked up at me bashfully, before back down at my phone. Finally her stubborn ass reached down, flipped it over and answered it, putting it on speaker. I saw from the contact that it was Mecca. She was requesting to FaceTime.
“Mazzier, we’re having a last-minute dinner at Quari and Love’s house. You should stop by with ya lonely ho ass. I know for a fact Gayze still ain’t fucking with you and she has every right.” Mecca was talking shit and looking everywhere but at the damn phone.
Gayze giggled, causing Mecca to look at the phone.
“Woah really? You gave him a second chance and he doesn't have a black eye or nothing? Did you even pinch him, Gayze?”
Gauze laughed. “Nope, he?—”
“Got ya dickmatized. I peep.” My sister shook her head. “Good then that means you’ll be at dinner tonight too.” She smiled.
“Nah we got plans tonight.” I answered before Gauze could speak. I meant that shit too. I gave Gauze those eyes before continuing to take care of my hygiene.
“What is that? Gayze don’t want you all up on her. She needs air too, ole irritating smothering ass.” Mecca rolled her eyes and screwed up her face.
“She gets enough air, you just worry about carrying my niece or nephew and let me worry about what’s in or on Gauze.” I looked over at her and winked. I had slipped the in part in there.
“Ew! Too much information, but please do come. I’m gonna pick Mel up today because she’s gonna run some errands with me, so don’t worry about her. Please come. Now I have to call you later, Kasair is calling.”
I nodded and before I could respond she hung up. The entire time my eyes remained glued to Gayze’s backside. It was fucking magnificent, shit sometimes I caught myself just staring at it. She was now in her room making up the damn blowup mattress.
“Stop looking at my butt, Mazzier.”
“Why?” I asked, walking up and standing behind her.
“Because I can damn near feel your eyes burning a hole in my behind.” She turned around and looked up at me.
I wrapped my arms around her waist. “I’d like to be doing a lot more, but the way your schedule is set up, a nigga has to schedule that time.
That’s exactly why we ain’t going to that dinner tonight, I got better shit to be eating then vegetarian food.
” I leaned down and pressed my lips against her forehead.
She giggled as I let her go and she continued to get dressed. “You nasty.”
“And you fucking like it. Say you don’t.”
“Hmph. What’s on your agenda today?” She asked.
“ I need to run by Canez and change the locks and shit. Then I’m on some other shit.” I shrugged. I didn’t even know what other shit was, but it sounded good.
I ended up talking and kicking it with her until she left for work, then I had my own shit to deal with.
Now I knew my sister would be with Mecca, I wasn’t in a rush to put Gayze’s bed together.
She’d be at my place tonight anyways. When I pulled up to Canez, I wasn’t even surprised to see Honey parked outside in a pair of shades with a trench coat.
Since things with me and Gauze had gotten back on track, I wasn’t even taking her calls.
Call me a bitch or whatever, all I know is I wasn’t tryna jeopardize anything I was building with her.
Before I got out of the car, I looked around to see if the locksmith was here, I wanted all my shit changed because what happened the other day couldn’t happen again.
I spotted his truck and nodded my head as I hopped out.
She was first to approach me, but I held my hand up telling her ass to hold up as I walked up to the locksmith. I remembered him from the last time he came through so when he saw me he was already getting his shit from his van.
“Good to see you again Mr. Carson. What’s the deal?” he asked in broken English.
I nodded. “Same, I want everything changed. I’m talking codes, keys and the whole nine. I’ll pay whatever it is at the end. If I’m not around, just have Mikey call me.”
He nodded as he proceeded into Canez while I turned around and looked at Honey. “Look Imma need you to stop popping up and hitting me up.” I peered at her.
“So it’s that easy? You post that bitch on ya social media and you through with me and all the fun we have?”
I laughed knowing what she was referring to. I’d posted an off-guard of Gauze in her scrubs this morning. It was nothing special, hell Gauze hated the picture but I fucked with it.
“Shorty, we had fun, cool but that’s it. I’m cool on this.”
She shook her head. “I thought we were?—”
“Honey, what you want me to be a nothing ass nigga and feed you dreams while I go home to my lady every night? Nah, I can’t do that because I’m not built like that. I fouled up with you once, but I’m making this shit clear right now.”
What she did next made me tilt my head to the side and just look at her.
Shorty started stomping on the ground and throwing what looked like a tantrum.
She threw her hands to her head and started screaming.
“No, no, no! You weren’t supposed to be with her.
I’ve done everything. I shared my best friend with you, Mazz. Why her?”
I didn’t even bother to respond, I walked my ass over and got into my car. I didn’t have time to do this with her childish ass. I maneuvered my truck from the parking space and pulled from the parking lot.
The moment the thought of going to climb into my bead entered my brain, my phone started ringing. I glanced at the monitor in my car and I saw that it was Quari.
“What, nigga.” I asked, before looking at the road ahead.
“Pull through Green Mile and Quari said bring that file. Damn you grouchy too? What the fuck is wrong with y’all?” Kasair asked, fussing through Quari’s phone.
