Page 27 of Capturing Love
“Speaking of which, is this a white wedding or did I just follow you in here for a chat?”
“Yeah, yeah, here, take this.”
There was a moment’s silence before they began inhaling whatever Hank offered him.
“Do you think he’ll get back together with Mel?” Craig asked, between sniffs.
“I have no doubt.”
“You sure? He seems pretty keen on that girl out there.”
“That girl just gave his dick a big wakeup call. Grayson will crawl back to Melanie once he’s done sowing his oats. Just like last time.”
Craig hummed. “Perhaps he’ll give me her number when he’s done with her.”
“Perhaps he’ll keep her number. There’s no reason why he should stop tapping that hot ass.”
I felt each bubble of excitement pop as the realisation of what I was to Grayson sunk in. Pressing my lips together, I flushed the toilet and as anticipated, the room fell deathly silent.
“Fuck,” Hank whispered.
I casually opened the door and ambled over to the sink to wash my hands. Their eyes grew wide in my peripheral vision.
“What are you doing in here?” Hank’s entire body went rigid.
“The ladies’ was full, so I thought I’d sneak in.” I chuckled in disbelief and shook my head as the water ran through my fingers. “And I’m so, so glad I did.”
Hank cleared his throat. “I’m assuming you heard all that.”
I lifted my gaze to the reflection of both men and smirked. “It was very…eye-opening.”
Moving towards the door, Hank grasped my bag, making me stumbled backwards. “None of this is on the record,” he rumbled over my shoulder.
“Don’t sweat it. Our magazine doesn’t print trash.”
“No, they just employ it.”
My head snapped back to Hank. “Just for the record, I never fucked your friend…and now you can explain to him why I never will.” My smile tightened as I supressed the ache in my chest. What a fucking disappointment.
Storming out the door and through the foyer, I almost forgot Grayson was waiting for me until he caught my arm. “Hey, Josie…wait up.”
I spun around and slapped his hand away, tears stinging my eyes. Marlene was right. These people were not like us. They were arrogant, entitled, cheating fuckers, and I wanted nothing to do with any of them.
His eyebrows drew together when he met my angry gaze. “What’s wrong? What just happened?”
I shoved him hard and he held up his hands in complete surprise. “Why did you tell your friends we slept together in Vegas?”
“I…I didn’t—”
I held up my hand with a growl. “You know what? It doesn’t even matter. I don’t know you, and you certainly don’t know me.” I pushed past him, needing to get the hell out of there.
“I don’t know what you’ve heard, but I think you’re mistaken,” he said, catching up to me in a few short strides.
“I heard enough to kno—argh!” My heel snapped off as I whirled around to face Grayson. Fuck. I kicked off both shoes and picked them up with a scowl. “I heard enough to know you’re definitely not the person I thought you were,” I continued, pointing my broken shoe at him.
Craig and Hank materialised behind him, and bile crept up my throat. He followed my fiery gaze to his friends and his shoulders fell. “What the fuck did you guys say to her?”
They shrugged innocently, making me hate them even more.
