“Just promise you’ll hear me out afterwards. It’s about Mel.”
I narrowed my gaze, studying him. “Whatever. Can I go now?”
With his nod, I hurried out of his office and into the conference room.
As I moved to the back, Adam strolled in and his brother closed the door behind him. Grayson scanned the room until his gaze settled on me, but I kept my focus on Adam.
“Good afternoon, all,” Adam welcomed, with a forced smile. “Before you read about it in the papers, we thought we should inform you first, that Harlow Corp. has sold half its share of Maude to Warren Media.”
Fuck.
Adam continued. “Now, there is no need for alarm, for the business will run as usual. But as of tomorrow, Melanie Warren will be joining our team of directors to build on the furthering success of this company.”
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Burning fury flowed through my veins as my gaze panned over to Grayson, who had been watching my reaction closely. Adam finished his spiel and sent everyone on their way, until just the three of us remained. I was paralysed with anger.
Clearly aware of my presence, Adam placed his hand on Grayson’s shoulder, urging him to leave. “Gray, we need to go.”
Grayson didn’t move, nor did his eyes leave mine. “Just give me a minute.”
“It’s not a good idea. Remember what Dad said…”
He shrugged him off angrily. “Just give me a fucking minute.”
Adam grumbled something incoherent as he left the room, shaking his head.
Rising from the chair, I moved towards Grayson, watching his jaw pulse as I edged closer. I opened my mouth to speak, but I couldn’t even form a word. Instead, I dropped my gaze, stepped around him and left.
I rushed out of the office as quick as humanly possible and ran home, mumbling obscenities with every step. Hoping to calm my inner turmoil, I grabbed Luci and went straight to the park for a long run.
Hours later, I trudged up the stairs with Luci, feeling no better than when I left. And once I reached my apartment, I felt even worse. Because there, on the floor, leaning back against my door was Grayson, fast asleep.
His hair was scruffy, his shirt loosened and his jacket lay piled at his side. He looked more homeless than a billionaire, and I almost felt sorry for him. Before I had a chance to nudge him awake with my foot, Luci lunged forward and slobbered his face with wet kisses. Grayson’s eyes shot open before scrambling to his feet.
“How did you get up here?” I asked, as my anger resurfaced.
“Um…the guy downstairs let me in.”
I groaned. Bloody Reed.
“He thought I was the pizza guy.”
Luci licked his chops as I peered down at the empty pizza box at Grayson’s feet. “At least I don’t have to feed him dinner now.”
“Shit,” Grayson muttered, picking up the remains.
“Why are you here?” I asked, unlocking the door to let Luci in.
“You promised to hear me out.”
I glared at him. “That was before you unleashed my own personal hell.” I moved inside, but blocked the doorway.
Grayson raised his eyebrows. “Can I come in?”
“No.” I crossed my arms and leant against the door frame.
“Please?”
