I nodded.
“I hope he knows how special you are, Jos,” he said, with a defeated sigh.
My lips rose into a sad smile and I pecked him on the lips. “Stay in touch, okay?”
“Bye, Josie,” he uttered, and we parted ways.
As I typed in my security code, a shadow cast over me.
“Pete, I told you…” I turned around and my voice faded. It wasn’t Pete, it was Grayson.
His chest rose up and down as he moved closer. His glistening eyes bored down into mine. “I still don’t want to talk about it.”
My heart ached for him. “Just be gone before I wake up, okay.”
He lowered his eyes with a nod, and I let him follow me up to my bedroom.

I walked into work on Monday morning on high alert. It was only a matter of time before Melanie’s secret imploded, and it wouldn’t take her long to work out who was responsible.
“I wouldn’t go down there,” Amy whispered, grabbing my arm and pulling me aside as I entered the foyer.
A few of our colleagues hovered nearby and we all simultaneously flinched when a loud crash sounded down the hallway.
I gasped. “What’s going on?”
“Tell me who she is!” screamed Melanie.
Oh, shit.
Leaving Amy behind, I slowly edged my way down the hall, eyeing Grayson’s trashed office as I crept to my desk. Grayson’s back was turned, while Melanie waved a familiar pink G-string in front of his face.
Oh, fuck.
My wall of plants concealed the scene, but did nothing to muffle their argument.
“Just calm down, Melanie,” Grayson said, remaining composed. “Maybe when you’re sober we can have this chat, but you’re not remotely capable of having a civil conversation right now.”
“Don’t tell me to calm down, just tell me who you’re fucking!”
Grayson sighed. “Why the fuck do you even care? This relationship isn’t real.”
“But our parents don’t know that.”
Panic surged through me.
Grayson’s voice grew low and menacing. “Go home and sleep it off before I say something I’ll regret.”
“Are you really doing all this for some slut from the office?”
“Don’t ever call her that! She’s none of your fucking business.”
“I’m your fiancé, I think she is.”
Grayson growled. “Not anymore you’re not, real or fake.”
“No. No, no! You can’t just dump me. You need me!” Panic laced her words.
