The idiot had even had sex withMiles’s sister. Only someone with something to prove would think that was a good idea.

“Are you quite finished?” Julian stepped beside us, pulling out his phone. “Or should I take care of things and lose Damen’s body so we can just go home ourselves?”

No matter how infuriating he might be, no one would be killing Damen today.

“Did you just threaten me?” Damen frowned at the necromancer. “Because if you—”

I pressed my fingers to his lips. “I want to go home now please.”

We’d already been away far longer than I planned, and my sore muscles were aching for a nice, warm bath. After that, though, there were some things needing to be addressed: Miles owed me a cake, and I had a number of questions for Brayden. However, I suspected that my brother wouldn’t be able to provide me with the answers to the questions Kathleen had left behind.

I would, eventually, have to talk to Dr. Stephens. Even now, the ring Kathleen had left for me burned a hole in my pocket. She’d also said he’d known me, and that, maybe, I’d given him a mission.

But what could it be? Would he even tell me?

That being said, I doubted even Dr. Stephens could answer my most pressing concern:whyhad Kathleen’s Snallygaster looked likemydragon?

I’d stopped believing in coincidence a long time ago.

Damen blinked, pulling me out of my thoughts as he rubbed his thumb in a circle over my shoulder. “Of course,” he said. “Anything you want.”
