Jamie was sure her smile lit up the room at the sight of Duncan walking through that door. “You came!”
“I told you I would.” He moved to the chair beside hers.
“The father, I presume,” the nurse said.
“Yes,” they replied in unison and laughed.
The nurse finished her tasks. “Okay, Doctor Dearing will be in to see you in a few minutes.”
“Thank you.”
She left the room, and then they were alone.
“I thought you weren’t gonna show,” Jamie admitted.
“Hey, I meant it when I said I’d be with you through all of this.”
“I’m glad you’re here.”
He gave her a cute smile that made her stomach flip.
“How was your week?” she asked, trying to make the situation lighter.
He shrugged his shoulders. “It’s hard to focus right now, and I’m behind on a project.”
“I’m sorry. This is all my fault.”
“Not all your fault.” He tilted his head until he got her attention. “I think I’m going to have to come up with some kind of penalty every time I have to remind you of that.”
She raised an eyebrow.
“Like, every time you say it’s your fault, you owe me a coffee.”
Jamie chuckled. “You’re funny.”
“Hmm, I like this idea. I have a feeling it will get me a lot of free coffee. I am implementing this plan starting now.”
“What? No! You can’t just do that.”
“I just did.” He chuckled.
“Unfair. How can I get free coffee?”
“You shouldn’t drink coffee while you’re pregnant.”
“I can have decaf.”
He snorted. “Decaf doesn’t count.”
“Better than none.”
“Is it really, though?”
She smiled. “Okay, you have a point. What will I do without coffee?”
“It’s probably okay if you have a cup now and then.”
She glanced down at her belly. “Oh, Orange! What are you doing to me?”
